The MC Postillionen is an XP beast. If you play efficiently, you could probably level to 50 the fastest with it (OS grinding), although you'll end up with less cash once you get there.
I haven't leveled with the MC Post yet, although I have one in my warehouse waiting for my leveling NO to get to 26, so I'll withhold comment until then.

As far as stock Raa vs MC Stral, even though the other stats are very similar, the extra range and heavier guns makes the MC Stral better in my opinion. It is a little less maneuverable, but you don't really need a whole lot of maneuverability for killing NPCs. If you are doing missions, the MC Stral is the better ship, since it's more versatile.

That's absolutely correct; the MC Stral is quite a ranged beast in firepower for its level.

For grinding, If you're not as close to an NPC as possible, you're dealing less damage and killing less frequently. Even with an MC Stral, you should be getting the ship as close to the NPC as possible, to deal as much damage as it possibly can. And at that point, the Raa is better.

Heavy Ketch probably plenty of cargo space and lots of armour/structure, bit undergunned but I've used one up to lvl 17-18. I'm a pirate I don't know how much it's gonna cost you...

Hello,

on my lowbie FT alt, now Level 19, I have a Dolphyn Ketch (level 7 ship with armor planking, speed rig, accuracy cannons), and a Mediator Cutter (level 12 ship with armor planking, speed rig, grappling guns and ladders). It is quite fun to use the Cutter as a boarding ship.

Personally I would have liked the Cruizer very much, but there was not one for sale when I was at that level on my alt (for Elena I had one during pre-boarding), and now I will just move to level 21+ and get the Postillionen. The Cruizer is not a nimble ship though.

Level 12: Mediator Cutter (10k db)
Level 14: Cruizer Snow (13k db), nice broadside

Both are "small" ships, probably can get away with 3k db for the 6 permanent upgragde slots (6 * 500 db). e.g. small armor planking 3, small speed rig 3, small xyz cannon 3.

Regards,
Elena

If you like doing missions, Go with Postis and Strals. You will need ships that can take a beating.

If you like hunting on the OS, go with Locusts and Raas. The basic OS tactic is to get in close quickly and blow them out.

I agree completely about getting as close as possible, but the MC Stral still has better DPS up close than the stock Raa.

The basic tactic for any NPC combat is to get as close as possible and chew them up, missions or OS. Any of the mentioned ships are good at that. I'll say it again, because it always tends to get lost in the listing of favorite ships, but past 15 or so there are no bad ships, and for PvE any of them will be effective. The MC Raa is really the only "special" PvE ship, all the rest are just personal preference. Your captaining ability and use of skills and items makes a far bigger difference in missions than any ship.

Mmm, you're absolutely right about getting as close as possible for grinding. I hope more players realize this.

I double-checked. Hmm, it's not nearly as much as I thought it was, but at close-as-possible range the regular Raa still has a hair more dps. At that much of a difference, the higher speed probably becomes more important for closing to that range...

Or if you wanted, the Heavy raa is only one level higher than the MC Stral, but has an even higher dps.

Default what ship?!

I'm level25, i have 60,000db and i'm debating on whether i should get the Stral MC or the Raa. I am a NO, i do alot of missions and the occasional OS hunt. I look for firepower with ok maneuverability. My society mates have recommend the Stral MC. In fact one of my friends is holding a deed for the Stral MC for me. So which one? Oh I also need some good speed when I run into a bad situation (example=running from pirates in PvP)
