I was watching Treasure Quest on the Discovery channel and it covered an interesting exploration of what possibly is the wreck of the HMS victory. The bronze cannons they brought up were Huge!

There was more than one.

This is one that was built and sunk prior to the HMS Victory of Nelsonian fame.

The wreck found is of the Victory of 1737, the fourth vessel to bear the name.

The Victory of Trafalgar fame had her 42lbers removed in 1797 and replaced with the 32s preferred by the Navy at the time for their faster reload, smaller crews and improved heat loss under rapid fire.

Magnificent discussion, a prize in every post. I can't add much to this but I am certain the calculation for caliber above is incorrectly stated (certainly not intentionally). I understand caliber to be gun length/bore. In fact 14ft 8in or 176 inches/5.5 inches, sited as the Culverin bore, is 32.

In case any might have picked up on this and were confused.

Hmmm...it'd be nice to have HMS. Victory in the game, it would attract people who know a fragment of history and when they look at the model they will go; "Either that's not the one I saw at Portsmouth or I was really drunk that day...must have been drunk."

Anyway learning some fun history facts from this thread.
Moar plz.

Are there any plans for it? (old victory I mean)

I've been stuffing about in blender and might give it a go... I doubt they would turn down a SOL model if it magically showed up.

Guess i start trolling the shipwright forumz.
