Default Profession Changes

How many players have picked a profession and some where down the road decided, "this isn't for me"?

Currently you have only 1 option: dump(edit: hold) your avatar and start over(edit: start an alt).

How about giving players a choice AND keeping with the historical theme of the game?

Within a certain set of limits allow players to change their profession's (and in the one case nationality).

Freetraders - could become a pirate or privateer
See's more profit in taking what he needs and selling it instead of
making it

Privateer - could become a pirate or freetrader
Either crosses the line to priate or gets out of the business

Naval Officer - could become a privateer or Freetrader
Retires from the service

Pirate - could become a privateer or Freetrader (the one choice where the player would need to pick a nationality too)
Takes a government pardon and goes legit

If you're worried about any possible expoit lock them into the new profession for X amount of time before they could change again

and if you wish to create a money sink, have the changes cost money with the cost going up each time you change.

Uh, leave your first one alone and roll up a second one? There ARE 6 character slots

Neat idea, but not really sure if it's necessary. And its exploitable to a degree, level up "easymode" with a more flexible class like pirate/privateer, then switch careers to FTer or NO.

Just roll up pirate on one server, national on the other. Gives you access to all 5 professions. Alternate as desire hits.

Me:
42 FTer
41 Privateer
35 Pirate (Cutthroat soon)
27 NO
0 Buccaneer (Been waiting for this class, or something like it for months and months)

True, I too have a Sp. Priv on one server and a Fr. NO on another. It probably would have read better to say "start an alt" which is what I meant.

I did the NO just to see/do their professional missions. Great on paper but I have to contend with re-doing many missions I already have done with my Priv. or OS grinding. Neither of those options being totally fun.

Plus you do have players that become attached to their avatars and/or don't want to start over the leveling process. This would be an option around those problems.
