"Sovereign" class...?
This one interested me, from the same site as the Haring Buis. http://website.lineone.net/~dee.ord/Golden.htm A 102 gun ship, but of an older (pre SoL?) design - it looks a little different, which is nice - and with some thought, perhaps it could be an introduction to colossals, and something that could be allowed in for people pre level 50? Or for privateers? The real one was gutted by fire in 1690, though perhaps slightly updated it could even be SoL refit, if such a thing were possible... http://www.royal-navy.mod.uk/server/show/nav.3899 Because of its age, and balancing requirements - it could have smaller, or less guns; though having read the Royal Navy info - apparently it had lightweight bronze cannon and allegedly destroyed a dutch ship with a single broadside! The more I read, the more I like it, and the less likely I will (as a privateer) ever get to see one, even if someone takes on the project to bring it back to life...... 127ft long, compliment of 800 crew. Lower gun deck 20 cannon drakes 4 demi-cannon drakes 4 demi-cannon Middle gun deck 24 culverin drakes 6 culverins 4 demi-cannon Upper gun deck 38 demi-culverin drakes 4 demi-culverins 2 culverin drakes

Two reasons why this ship isnt a valid project. First its well before the 1660 cut off date and secondly they are not allowing any ships rated at 50+ guns. Other than that Im impressed with the site you found there was the Coiller Brig that could be a possible ship for the game if more accurate plans were found for the shipwrights.

Is the 1660 date (of which I was previously unaware) related to the build date or the service date? As I said, it was in service till 1690 and probably would have been longer had it not 'accidentally caught fire'.
I'm not a shipwright and wouldn't be able to make these things myself anyway; was just putting it out there.

We've turned down the Sovereign of the Seas many times because she was built before 1660. She was also absolutely miniscule compared to other 1st-rate ships in the game's setting, and would be very much out of place alongside her more modern companions. She's even smaller than the average 3rd-rate was by 1720.

OK
![]() Purely out of interest - since you obviously did your reading; how the heck did they get 100 guns on her then? ![]()

I suspect they cut corners on saftey and really overgunned her, as well as probably using marginally lighters guns, (I am no expert thogh so don't take that as fact)

Edit: Oops I thought this was a Wasa thread >.< Ignore my now deleted comments
![]() Edit: Speaking of "the size of a third rate", I was talking with Jabberdau the other day and discovered that his 1740 Danish ship of 60 guns is the size of an english 80 gun ship of 1720! The Royal Sovereign's 127ft length is about the same as a 4th rate of 50 guns in 1720. ![]() |

Do you see the picture you have there "KrisWood"? Well see how the colouring is done on that, I would LOVE it if they could put that type of colouring in-game. (So we can do 3-4 sections different colours, and still be ablt to do the sails, and trim. And also change the crew colour, because frankly I dont really like the colour, and it doesnt suite me and my crew. This should probably be in the "Suggestions Board", but I just put it on here because "KrisWood's" avatar picture (Which isnt really him) was on here. You may move it, but if you do so, may you please include his avatar picture so people know what Im talking about. lol - Jordan M

nah I think you're fine. The Lyon Hoy (pictured in my avatar) is indeed colored just the way it's shown. It's entirely a matter of art done by whoever does each individual ship. Unfortunately this means it's also up to each artist's personal preference, regardless of historical accuracy.

You know, I can't help thinking that the Royal Soveriegn would be a good "SoL" Trainer . . . so a lvl 45 Naval alternative to the Deliverance/Heavy Deliverance, but still weaker than a Mordaunt.
Plus, she acutally was used in the time period of PotBS (if something of a "second line" ship by then). |
