Sometimes, it takes a tank.
The "Archelon" Frigate Okay, first off, cool name. It inspires a sense of power and stability. So, what is it? I had originally thought of doing writeups on the Treason or Cyclone, which a lot of people thought were just awesomeness-personified, but, it occurred to me that I play a Naval Officer, and those ships aren't really my fare. So, then I read the Archelon's specs. It's not fast. It's not sleek. It's not designed to be. What it does have is the ability to take a solid licking and keep on. The sheer armor and damage reduction of this beast of a frigate, coupled with solid turning rate and a good compliment of guns (50 counting swivels), peaks my interest. It's max speed may turn off some aspiring buyers (14.5 kts isn't enough for speed demons), but don't write it off just yet. It's designed for the heat of a port battle. It will eat shot and keep smiling. Here's some highlights: 2176 armor on each broadside (roughly equal to a Prince 1st Rate) 12 DR on each broadside (More than a Hercules Heavy) A healthy turning rate (Slightly faster than a Tigre Sleek, making it a very useful Port Battle ship) 20 Defense (1 less than a standard Hercules) 28x16lb and 14x9lbs What's the purpose? This is a viable frigate to handle a furious port battle. The damage reduction coupled with the armor makes this a tough nut to crack. For those who want to tank, this is just the beast you were looking for. More detailed specs can be seen in the attached jpg. I personally am looking forward to this monster.

'Archelon' Frigate
What do you get when you mix a turtle with a tiger? The answer is you get an 'Archelon' Frigate warship. Armed with 28X16lb cannons on it's gundeck, a 14X9lb cannon topdeck, two nasty 18lb aft guns, and 13 target tracking, the Archelon has the claws to out damage a Tigre Mastercraft Frigate. As if that wasnt enough, the thick armor of the Archelon boasts 2176 broadside armor, 12 broadside damage resistance, and 2400 hull integrity. This gives it roughly the stay power of a Wendon Third Rate. The Archelon is a dangerous combination of offense and defense. Its only weakness is its lackluster top speed and turn rate at slow speeds, however it compensates with an extremely resilient bow and stern allowing captains to be out maneuvered and still live to sail another day. In both Port Battles and 6v6 OS fights the Archelon will shine as an all-around tough ship. Don't be fooled in thinking this ship will only be a blocker, get in range of the topdeck and you'll be looking for a block yourself. I suspect in 1v1 fights it will have troubles finishing similar targets because of its slower top speeds, however the Archelon will thrive in group situations. |

Enjoy, won’t you? Aether |

Any idea on the cost? A ship of this strength seems like it would cost a LSB... I am however very interested in this ship. Good job... I was hoping for a ship like this

I'm glad you like it. The overwhelming cannon-sponge capabilities of this ship are what really caught my eye. And, no, I don't know the cost.

Looks like it's a refit, or like the Dauntless a sorta-refit.

It's a refit of the Deliverance.

Yea it looks nice, but I see a possible catastrophe with this. If this ship doesnt cost at least 500k or require a LSB to refit then every other ship but Lineships will be obsolete, kind of like how you guys did with the econ, this ship will make pretty much 90% of all other ships obsolete and no point in sailing/crafting dealing with them, further crashing the econ.
SUMMARY Ship looks good. For the sake of the game do not make this ship less than 500k or not requiring an LSB. A serious question why after like 5 patches do Privateers get no new ships and our refits are still crap? And everyone else keeps getting new ships, their ships boosted/upgunned like the couronne(boosted twice) and the Reason. Instead one of our 2 endgame ships was given to FTs... Instead of havin several endgame options we have just the MC Herc which is 8 bundles... for an upgunned frigate which is still out damaged (DPS) by several other ships. Are There no Privateers ship creators/Devs? Brigham |

Quote:
Patch 1 - fix/buff Class 1 Patch 2 - fix/buff Class 2 Patch 3 - fix/buff Class 3 Patch 4 - fix/buff Class 4 Patch 5 - fix/buff Class 1 By the time in the above example you get to patch 4, the class 1 feels unloved, but if there were only four classes, the next fix/buff would be for class one again. That said, there is Privateer love coming, but were still in the early days of the game, so hang in there and you will not be dissapointed ![]() Now back to the topic ![]() Can anyone say soak up damage much? A viable ship that is not class dependent that has a spot in Port Battles, time to see more tactics and ship types in the fabled end game 24 v 24 battle ground! Can't wait ![]() |
