Default New Ships in 1.6: 'van Hoorn' Mastercraft Snow

Memories aren't this sweet

The "Van Hoorn" Mastercraft

I can only imagine what images that conjures up. A lot of us picked up the Van Hoorn at level 12 and found it to be about the coolest thing you can get for about ten more levels. 4 firing arcs, good turn-rate and speed. New strategies opened. Okay, so now you're thinking about the Van Hoorn. Now let's go Mastercraft on it. Upgun it: replace those 12x7lb for 18x8lb. Add armor: up the hull and facings by 20%.

Sure, it may not be a huge makeover, but an additional 20% to armor on a ship with 44 defense is no joke. A max speed of 16.5 and the 18x8lb makes this a match for the Lancer. For those who want to engage in small boat wars, this is an awesome ship. The Van Hoorn MC is a wonderfully rounded ship. It may not serve for Port Battles, but for small-boat PvP, this is a real fighter.

Default Ah yes Memories

Do you have a fondness of low level memories or just a fondness of guns on your prow of your ship? Well now you can have both... Now from the FLS Laboratories, the same guys who brought you such hits as the Halifax Fallback Schooner and the Original Van Horn Snow they are introducing the Van Horn Mastercraft Snow. This baby is guaranteed to last you a few levels with the fine addition of more guns to its broadside and still keeping with that feature that drew you to her in the first place its Prow Chasers. You can keep that Retro level 12 look from level 20 and beyond! Or do you want to be different are all your friends getting Frigates at level 21? Well now you can be different and do it earlier you now can do something all your friends in Postilleons can't, you can shoot in all four directions!

Fine Print
This ship is not guaranteed to not sink, nor is she guaranteed to take out a Postilleon however she is guaranteed to make you feel good about that level 12 ship you purchased your 3rd day into the game!

Nice as it is, I was really hoping for a little extra oomph for the bow chasers. Maybe 2x6" guns...

Nice work, all the same.

LOL! Where is this "Small boat PVP" of which you speak? All the PVP I see are Huge class ships and up, bar the odd Large (MC Raa for example) and uber-fast Cutter, Sloop, and Packet tacklers. Unless Shallows are very close on the horizon, this boat just seems like filler.

I guess it is a nice option for a newly leveling character, and for that, kudos. But judging by the number of posts relative to the other new ships, pardon my rudeness but, nobody cares. Sorry.

If purely speed fitted, it COULD make a decent tackler with those bow chasers, I guess.

With 2 4lb chasers with 350 yard range, hardly.

I'm going to be laughing when I sink you guys in this ship. I might even spill my drink.

Defense, defense defense +debuff you with fore/aft cannons. Gonna be a fun ship, will it be taking out Heavy Hercs? Man...hell no, but will it give some more middle of the road ships a run for thier money.

1.7 will see the addition of a cool new ship restriction, premiered on the MC Van Hoorn: Must not be Lojo.

Tell you what....You sink my Mercy or Reason, 1v1, in an MC VH Snow with current specs, and I'll pay your next months' subscription. Beat my MC Raa, and I'll buy you a another MC VH Snow deed.

Point is, it can do none of these things. Ships of that level are merely stepping stones to bigger and better ships and generally aren't used for more than a handful of levels...and NOT for PVP. When was the last time you saw a VH Snow in a red zone group? Never.
The ONLY way the MC VH Snow will be of any use is low level PVE missions, or if it gets a nice upgrade to the bow chasers.

Discounting that, it's just filler. Which is fine. Adding more stuff for newer player is cool by me. But don't harken it as a PVP ship when it will never, knowingly any way, be used for such a purpose.

Okay, to answer the "where is small boat PvP?" question. How do I? Well, let's see, why isn't there any?

Okay, granted most of my small boat PvP is done in a Lancer, and actually against larger ships, I suppose I may have spoken out of turn. But, why isn't there more small boat PvP? I think it's more interesting than 6 PH vs 6 H Variants. It's more interesting than large boat PvP imo. I mean, why not get small boat PvP going? Why not have cutter wars? Why not bring out a group of 6 in various small boats? But, my advertising aside, a lvl 20 ship with bow and stern chasers always has uses. And why does everything always have to be about PvP?

Squeak away squeaky wheels.
