I know pikemen were still wearing morions in the Thirty Years War, but you see them with less and less frequency as the 17th century progressed. I've never seen them in anything 18th century; by then only mounted troops were wearing helmets.

I just posted up about this a couple of days back, and the timing is superb. The economy seriously needs this to pull the massive liquidity back out of it from the folks who have aggregated a Smaug type mountain of doubloons.
Sooner the better. Make them crazy expensive. Put as many frills on them as humanly possible. But keep the number of the items under control. Dole them out 2 or 3 at a time, no reason to rush it. People *will* buy the stuff, no need to blow all your variety at once. I'd go so far as to say have one single random NPC that spawns once every couple of days that give a pirate writ which enables you to buy a couple of items with skulls or the like on it for a very, very, very high price. Spread them out, and the addition of extreme rarity of the "we found XYZ!" will compel people to buy the whatever foo foo item it is and in so doing yank all kinds of liquidity out of the market and make people feel ultra "leet". |

Actually, I'd like to see the Fencing animations stay as realistic is possible; the Florentine animations be somewhat flashy, and the Dirty Fighting animations to be totally over the top hollywood flash - at least, if it was up to me

Just hope this isn't an FLS answer to our pleas for content. This is nice however.

Also agree that parceling out the clothing bits will be the most effective -- otherwise everyone blows their wad at once. BTW, very nice job on the parrot animations, been meaning to compliment you on them. Interesting and not obtrusive. Any chance of having optional pennants on various masts of ships? just simple shapes, with either solid colors or no more than 2-3 preset fields that could be separately colored. would be a nice way to allow nations to distinguish squadrons and such. Finally, keep up the good work in the art side -- I realize it is fun and maybe not as stressful as the game design side, but it does add some nice touches to the game. |

Hey!
Sorry I couldn't get to this thread earlier. I was at GenCon when it was posted ![]() I just wanted to come in and let everyone know that even though we're making the animations more exaggerated, they are still grounded in classical sword fighting. There won't be any Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon going on ![]() The timing of combat is changing a little bit. Things are still in development so I can't comment on the gameplay side but from our point of view, we've been given a little more time to work with. This means we can actually add anticipation, make our animations snappier, and give them proper follow through. Things like a ballestra lunge would have never been possible in our old system because we just didn’t have enough time. Some of our older animations also suffered from us trying to cram too much action into a small span. Those moves will look even better now with the resources we are spending to work on them. As far as the luxury items go, we plan to keep adding more in the future and I will definitely keep your requests in mind. Adding more pirate type stuff would be great. Right now the character team has moved on to other tasks (which I look forward to showing off soon) but we will be coming back to the luxury items in the future. A lot of the questions about how you get these in game can be answered by Bert here. http://www.burningsea.com/forums/sho...648#post471648 We’re just the artists. We make the art. I’m not sure what happens after that ![]() -mat |

Lol. I just looked at the prices.
90k for a coat. Never.Going.To.Happen. Especially not when I can't even look at it on my player first.

Haven't seen it yet; but definitely have to see it on my player first. Try it on before you buy it!
That said, 90k? ~shrugs~ That's chump change for something I buy once and never lose.

Good for you. If spending 250k plus on sight-unseen "luxury" items is what does it for you, go ahead.
