While he has been an FLS fixture for some time, Deqlor is a new Mission Designer for Pirates of the Burning Sea. He's written an introductory Devlog discussing his contributions to the wild world of mission design, and you can read it by visiting this link!
Enjoy, won't you? Aether |

I love devlogs in general, but I love these kinds of devlogs in particular. It's always fun reading about what people do and their approach to things, and just get a sense of what goes on at FLS rather than what's going on with the game.
Keep 'em coming ![]()

Welcome to the 'Big Show,' Deqlor!
Let me just say, that I am eagerly awaiting the "Talk Like a Pirate" Day missions. I hope some of my feedback and tickets have been helpful on bugged missions in the past, and I wish you all the best going forward! With someone so enthusiastic about their job, I know (as well as I can know from personal experiences with the same type of people) that you're going to fit in wonderfully, and we can expect great things from you. /tiphat

Yep, been waiting to read this one, I heard a whisper about it during PAX. Really looking forward to the missions, they sound cool and it's nice to see how your process in designing them works!

We originally hired Deqlor as an hourly short-term contractor and he was such a good employee, I didn't want to lose him. When he was able to get a full-time permanent position w/ us, I danced a little jig. There are a few other people who fit that description - Aether may squeeze devlogs out of them at some point. Nutch has hired some true gems.
![]() I've always thought, but Deqlor's devlog makes me seriously ponder how I could make it happen, that we should force pretty much everyone to do a stint in QA and/or CS. Hrmmmm... /offtoponderevilplots

When I used to bartend, we always used to say everyone should do a mandatory two years in the Service Industry to learn how to deal with people.
Thanks for all your support, folks. The quality of my work has yet to be tested by the community, but I do really hope you like what you see. Back to work. By all means, continue to praise me in my absence. |

But what can we praise you for? You did help me on one of my support tickets, you did a great job there. Plus you are quite entertaining, that's a bonus. Your devlog was a good one, you can definitely write.
![]() Glad to see you made it into ConCo Deq, I'm expecting big things out of you now!

Congrats on the promotion; and shift to doing the work you love.
To echo Kungtotte, these are my favourite devlogs as well, too. Obviously, I love the major design devlogs Isildur and Taelorn have done in the past; but these devlogs give me an insight into the real guts of FLS; as opposed to just the game. If I were Misha For A Day, I would (after getting over some gender issues) decree that all FLS staff need to write devlogs such as these. As to the cross-training thing; I'd absolutely have every single employee spend some time in both QA and CS. Not necessarily a long time(financial and productivity issues rear their ugly heads) but long enough to get a feel for that end of things. I'm a pressman in a commercial print shop. We print magazines, fliers, etc. Even there, I'm a firm believer in sending all our new staff to spend some time working in post-press, where the printed products we produce are bound, trimmed, and otherwise finished and packaged for sale. This way, they can get a feel for how common press mistakes affects those downstream, and a more realistic feeling of how the quality of work they do impacts others and what seemingly innocuous problems can cause significant waste or losses of productivity. The difference it makes is like night and day. .... Then, I'd probably go back to the gender thing for a while.
