I'm 2/3 through the Ramage books and they're good, but they get a bit repetative in the middle. He's ridiculously lucky, if you ask me.
I don't mind a little crew slaughter in my literature. It's war. Dead happens.

Under Enemy Colours by Sean Thomas Russell is an awesome book.
It may lack the pirates but it is a great read, story is based just before the napoleonic wars lots of interesting ship based action with plenty of detail. It's the first in a series of which the next one comes out later this year. Also the Hornblower series by CS Forester is apparently very good.

The Horatio Hornblower series are great reads. CS Forester also wrote some others that are good as well, like African Queen (the story of a British woman's adventure in Africa) and The Gun (the story of an 18 pounder in the hands of Spanish militia vs the French).

For the privateer lovers there is a pretty interesting book that came out talking about stories of privateers experiences in the revolutionary war.
Patriot Pirates by Robert h Patton sorry i guess this one is a little bit off topic but i thought it might be worth the post. |

How about dewey lambdin? He doesn't write pirate historical fiction but his main character is a british officer that fights pirates and french and spanish everywhere. Granted, it does take place later than the game's time period but i love that series. That's where my NO got the name...
