Default Welcome Committee (New Players look here!)

Greetings, I am Leon Bellamont of the Welcome Committee. As a new player you might be wondering what we are. The Welcome Committee is a group of players with the like minded goal of helping out those who are new to the game. Whenever we're available or online we won't hesitate to answer as many questions as we can or point you in the right direction in hopes that not only will you understand the game better but you'll have more fun by getting your questions off your chest as soon as possible.

The members of the Committee are very friendly players who simply enjoy helping out those that are in need. The helping only extends to questions, however, so don't expect us to help you power level, run you through missions, or hand out free stuff. While some of us are willing to do so that is entirely up to the player. Our main function is to make sure that new players have a good grasp on the game's mechanics and therefore have a greater appreciation of the game.

It is unfortunate but we're not on all the time but you're free to send a private message to any of us on the forums and we'll get back to you as soon as possible. If you want to speak to one of us in game look up the person of the appropriate faction, (Or go to a general trainer in your city capital, these are Tortuga, Havana, Port Royal, and Pointe A Pitre, and pick up the diplomacy skill which requires a skill point. This skill will allow you to understand those of other nations.)

The list of people in the Welcome Committee are always changing so it's very hard to keep an updated list but if you see someone on you can go to the two hands clasped together icon and then find the friend's list. You can then add the person and whenever it's on it'll let you know.

If you get the diplomacy skill which I mentioned above you don't even need to find someone on your nation but just your server. You can send people tells even if they're not from your nation but they also need diplomacy too. Unfortunately, I don't have diplomacy but you can always send me a pm on the forums.

You can also throw me a pm and I'll direct you to some of the current players in game characters but be aware that they may not be on. Another great method to get our attention, if we're on, is to request help in nation chat. This is great because even if none of us are on there's a good chance that someone else will pick up your question and give you an answer.

There's not a Committee member of each nation but there's always people who are willing to help out. Even if you're not in the welcome committee you can post in this thread your contact info if you want so other players can look you up for help or advice but only post if you're serious about helping someone.

P.S. This link has more information regarding the Welcome Committee and how to join for those who want to help out in the mission to spread knowledge to all the new players.

Oh, and for those who get accepted into the Welcome Committee you can post in this thread so people can send you a private message or arrange a time where you're on and can show them the ropes. So welcome all new players to the game. Make sure to include whether or not you have diplomacy. I hope this thread is helpful to you and wish you the best of luck.

I am also in the Welcome Committee and I am on Roberts and my name is James Watson and I am British. If your ever confused about something or lost etc just find a Welcome Committee member and we will try to help as best we can. Unfortunately I do not have Diplomacy at this time but now I am a Welcome Committee member I will look into freeing up a skill point for it.

I'm happy to say that the Welcome Committee is very much alive ... just renamed 'Boarding Party' from the forum perspective. They gave all of us the 'Welcome Committee' character Title, so we would be recognizable when online.

Depending on the server and the faction, there is usually someone on most of the day to help. Some of us spend time in the start towns specifically to help you the new player. Just look around and see if someone has the Title.

There are several 'Guides' posted here on the website, they can be very helpful. Consider joining a Society as well, some of them are more than willing to share their knowledge of the game with you. There is a lot of content, be patient, ask questions and everything will make sense eventually.

Welcome aboard!

Some useful stuff:

Search this forum for 'Remus' and download the Production Planner spreadsheet if you are interested in making things ('econ').

http://potbs.wikia.com has most of the online documentation, mission lists, info on turn-ins, ships, towns, and lists of loot.

That simply is not true, most of the time there is no-body on & I know most of the boarding party no longer play or are not active subscribers.
As I type this there are none on the forums!

I'd just like to point out that any player from the boarding party who does the welcome committee does so on a completely voluntary basis in their own free time and anything that they do in-game is supported mainly by the players themselves (in terms of any items they wish to hand out) and by FLS providing support for things like system messages announcing their player events.

Mainly because of this, there's likely to be nowhere near as many of their members online during the week as there are at the weekend. However, I've passed this onto Traebien who looks after the Boarding Party for FLS, to look into further
