One more thing...you can make out if a guy is using tough sails or a sail toughness general (St Elmo, for instance), but how do you discern if he's using runner rigs?. Sail integrity stays the same as if he is using most sail fittings (turning ones, for instance)

I like to balance out my repairs. When I've taken some damage all around my ship (around 30% or so) I'll use the career skill, once they work me down to yellow armor on each side I'll use a consumable, and once they get down into my structure I'll use a carpenter.

It's sort of hard to explain, it's just one of those many things you'll get a feel for as you progress.

If he has base sails chances are he's using runners rigs, but you've got to wait until you actually see him sailing around to be sure.

I suggest you evaluate your character build first, talk to someone that is really good with a priv, find out what skills they use. How do you outfit your disco?

Again thanks for answers

Silmarils: I'm not using stone shot, but then someone said in game that they were good for crew killind and wondered about them . Nice to know they aren't really good, now I wont waste DB into purchasing some .

Thedumbcusin: Thanks for the tips, that should really help. Seems I'm doing it completely wrong. I usually use career first (is a given), carpenter then, and finally consumables. I think I was waiting until too late using them ,aswell...

Firewalker: I've done several respecs now until I hit what I think is a good balance for group and soloing:

http://potbs.grindlama.com/privateer/?l=50&s=3550205508

This is my build. I totally skip the flexibility line, which is good, but for my liking not as good as other skills.
I sacrifice entangled shot and damaged rudder from disabling line because of that too. Cut shrowd not, it's a must both for slowing runners down, or to keep pursuers at a distance, both from me or from other guys in the group.

I tried several variations with flexibility. But that costed me either a very good spike in crushing broadside (which when I didn't have ,I really missed it), and unpred: offense which is mostly unvaluable if you're in a group and not primaried, or to get an specially damaging shot now and then in 1vs1. Jugular and burst of speed I'm not giving away, the first is a must in groups and is useful in soloing too, the second is amazing not just to run away, but to win a shot in time, to use insta-acceleration after a turn through the wind, or to get out of a firing arc before another shot comes in.

the discovery I usually sail carry a couple runner rigs, streamlined hulls, acc guns, engineered structure 5, taxman's, and an optional third wich can be either pig figurehead, exp powder 1st grade (don't have cantonese ), or even spyglasses if I want to stalk possible prey and get a good starting position when soloing.

Reasoning behind that fitting is that I want to run away from anything I can't outfight... mostly because I'm still rather new, don't do dailies and money is a recurring problem for me, so losing ships, even a small disco, is a big hit for me .

This is my build: http://potbs.grindlama.com/privateer/?l=50&s=3050534508

Its pretty odd but it works for me as a solo build. No I dont have juggs but I have tested it and tbh I could care less. Its best for solo in my opinion.

I outfit my Disco with 2 runners, 2 waddings, 2 streamlines, 1 engineered 5, 1 Counter-weighted rudder tackle 5, 1 damage mod. I try mainly to stern camp

Here is the build I am using http://potbs.grindlama.com/privateer/?l=41&s=3550205108

My perm fittings were 2 runner rigs, 1 perfected 4, 1 wadding 4, 2 streamlined 4, generals were exotic goblet drum, sharp eyed lookout and treacherous cannons 1.

I used bronze not explosive, explosive is a waste of movs imo.

glad you posted here, Boris .

You might have not used explosive, but you really smashed my crew to the point I thought you were. As you can see on this thread you've really caused a big impression in me, lol

Since the first day I started pvp-ing you've been my nemesis...first your lvl40 priv in discovery kiled my sleek raa ,already lvl50...then lvl41 disco almost kills my lvl50 disco, then yesterday I and Rafael had to run because of you (and because of NPCs too, lol).

You've caused such a shake on my ability as a player, that one of my long term main goals is to beat you in a 1vs1 in similar ships...I know it will take time, but at least I'll try

/tiphat . You might not really notice it but that disco vs disco fight we had the other day is one of the most memorable things I've experienced in any multiplayer game I've ever played. I never felt so owned ,lol

another thought here . . . .

you siad you closed 2 different times, and had to run.

and *could* run

my opinion is there are 2 ways to fit for 1v1 . . you can fit to win, or you can fit to run.

If your ship can outrun any other ship you come across, then chances are it is too gimped now to be able to sink anything all by itself.

<disclaimer> . . yes, there are some who have found a way to fit to run *and* win . . but that is more an exception, and if you misplay at that game, you get caught, and sunk

Ok 1st off don't feel bad this game has a steep learning curve. More people should get out and PvP at lower levels just for the experience but, that is another subject. You’re going to lose more than you win. It takes awhile to get the hang of things so don’t give up. You’re going to lose many if not all of you your 1st 25 fights so get them out of the way at low level when there is less risk for you. My advice to any new players reading this is, don’t wait till 50 to get out there and PvP. You need to be very well versed in the classes and ships. Skill recognition is paramount.

Now there are 2 types of PvPers in this game the old school players that hunt targets on the OS and the players that sit outside of port or the circle and call challenges out. IMO it’s not really PvP it’s just a duel where 1 player gets the marks. Which type of player you are dictates how you outfit. The latter is generally duel fitted. Meaning they are tanking armor or resist, rigged for maneuverability, and damage. They drop speed outfittings/skills for more damage and maneuverability. Their builds lack speed so they generally don’t do well on the OS cruising the circles as they are gank bait. I avoid these guys, they should just sit in MT duel and exchange MoVs at the end.

If you go old school then you need to be pretty balanced in terms of speed and armor/resist (focus on speed but, but don’t make yourself too squishy because you’ll have less room for error). I would use 2x runners, 2x speed guns, 1x armor hull, 1x streamline (sometimes 2x streamline, and it is what I use in group too but, accuracy guns instead of speed guns). I use speed guns to counter my crew penalty. Generals I differ abit from most players, Sturdy Ratlines, Eagle Eye Cannon, and Resilient Gunports. I use the range mod because I hunt players that don’t really want to be caught. So my preference is to have that extra range to get the initial shot off to keep them in combat. I use Demoralize on that 1st shot. After that it depends on your fighting style. I recommend using your maneuverability to keep damage even on both sides.

The build you posted is what I use in group and yes 1v1s because I am too lazy to respect and then change my bars around. I am considering level an alt Privateer just for 1v1s. Jorge’s build is what I would use in 1v1s. You’ll need the extra maneuverability and the Rapid Reload is very good getting into the structure fast or getting those last few shot off to finish their structure. Buff/counter your weaknesses, if you know the classes well you can guess the mods they will use i.e. FTs are usually running 4 maybe 5 damage mods.

You’ll need to get all the clickable quest reward items (Look in this section there is a thread floating around about what items to get and where). Don’t wait till you are at 50% armor to start repairing. Repairs are important I always buy the top of the line and have a huge stockpile. Carry extra outfitting with you and keep at least 4 dura on you at all times.

Most Important is if you want to be a good solo player you need to be out there doing it every day. Other wise you get rusty. I have not seriously done any 1v1s since the summer so I am a pretty easy kill for a skilled player. So you know if you lose to me you not that good lol. Oh and one last thing, for god sakes learn to Avcom. Even if you hate it, get the best swords and items and practice a lot.
