Default Strange AVCOM behaviour on Roberts 26/1

Hello everybody!

Lately, Roberts has been suffering under huge amounts of lag and bad performance, which has meant a severe drop in gameplay quality. I wouldn't go as far as saying that it has become unplayable, but I'm very close to call that.

I frequently "rubberband" (I believe that this is the word used for this effect; you walk a little bit and you reset back to starting point) in ports making missions a pain to turn in. While I can overcome that, it wastes a lot of my time.

But last night I had a very bad experience in AVCOM. When I started attacking some NPC, my character lagged so much that I couldn't hit anything. When I walked up to where the enemy was, he moved (well, rather teleported it seemed to me) and couldn't hit him with my attack, which I also had pressed a minute ago. Even my skills didn't work. I could press one and it never triggered. Also, calling for reinforcements didn't work. I could press it and after 1 minute (assuming I didn't die) they would spawn.

It made me (level 29) lose against a level 15 NPC in boarding combat with 5 waves vs his 0, that's how bad it was.

Also, characters, both NPC and players, could drop to 0 hp and get 100 HP again in an instant without respawning.

The funny thing is that when I teamed up with my brother, he had none of the issues even though we're running on the same network and everything. The problem seemed isolated to me. However, it's not a hardware problem as my computer is up to date and the problem was latency-related. I would probably go as far as saying that it seems I am not synced with the server proberly. The weird thing is that it only happens in AVCOM. Ship combat is fine.

I don't know if anyone has had a similar problem, but it's getting very annoying. I'm hoping it's fixed by tomorrow!

Yep, i've had similar problems with all kinds of AvCombat since the last patch... the dev's are trying to fob me off with 'network issues outside of their control' but as more and more people report this problem sooner or later they will have to accept the fact they broke something - or thats my hope, at least!!!

Could well be 3d party network issues causing your lag. I have experienced zero lag since free boarding. Now unless they broke something very specific to a small number of users then id hold off with the beating sticks.

You have all contacted your isps and had a look at your conenction / path to the game servers right ?

So your brother is playing on the same network and have no issues, but you say it's NOT your pc ??

You claim it's latency related, so you are saying that FLS put in specific Latency issues related to individual chars ?!???!??!?!?
Im an IT-Professionel and I can't even imagine how that would be remotely possible.....even if they did it on purpose it would be tough to single out chars and introduce lag, unless they selected your specific account and somehow set in a max bandwith usage on it.......which seems very unlikely.

I suspect it's an issue with your pc or maybe something you had running in the background, like downloads or something else that throttled your bandwith.

Anyway do a tracert www.burningsea.com and see how the hops go, then do the same from your brothers pc and see if you can find a noticerble difference in response times.

You can also do a ping www.burningsea.com -t and do the same for him, see what your ms response times are.

Just to explain a bit.

Go to
Start - > Run
Type in CMD
Press OK
The black box comes up
Type in TRACERT www.burningsea.com
It will begin a Trace Route to the burningsea webpage, located with the other servers.

You will get something like this (IP's and names blocked out since im sitting at work cannot trace out)

Tracing route to xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx [xx.xxx.xxx.x]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

1 1 ms 1 ms 1 ms xx.xxx.xxx.xxx
2 1 ms 1 ms 1 ms xx.xxx.xxx.xxx
3 52 ms 53 ms 53 ms xx.xxx.xxx.xxx
4 54 ms 54 ms 53 ms xx.xxx.xxx.xxx
5 54 ms 54 ms 54 ms xx.xxx.xxx.xxx

This shows the hops your router takes to reach the server and how much each "hop" takes.

the numbers represent miliseconds, so the lower the better of course.

If you should get any "Request timed out" then that is likely where your issue occurs
Also very high ms responses is one thing that will indicate congestation, which is what causes lag, if you experience this and your brother does not, it is seriously strange if you are on the same line, perhaps a faulty cable or network card, bad drivers or something similar.

If your entire path there is fine, do the same as above, but insted of doing TRACERT, do PING www.burningsea.com -t

This will begin a continious ping of the server (if they allow it, they may have blocked it) and if you do this on both yours and your brothers pc and let it run for some time, you can see and identify if you get sudden lag spikes and if he gets the same.

Once again if this is the game for one and not both, it points to issues such as cable, network card, drivers or similar.
If you both get them at the same points, it points to line issues or if the issue is as FLS's side, network issues.

Good luck
