ok not sure if this post falls under shipwright discussion but i though i gave it a try. I asked my self today if there was a ship small or medium in relative scale to the scaling system in the game that would carry heavy cannons, lets say 12lbs to 18lbs. the only one i knew of was the Hornet gunboat (in game) with an 18 pounder, tried to look online or forums but no result(so far/still looking). Anyone know of any ship from the era that had this settings or is it even possible to have the seetings of those types of hevy pounders? Id say if you can put one on a Gunboat 18lbs i believe its possible on a small or medium ship?

Some large ships have them but only a few 12 pounders and they come expensive. |

k thanks for the info, i was just curious it would have been great when i was a low level newby to have something that could pack a small punch, for example,(lets say a van hoorn with 10-12 pounders lol), of course only downside i see to this would be the ships speed would have been extreemly reduced. I still say it would have been cool to see a ship with that firepower at that level range.

I remember the first book of Aubrey series, when Jack tried to fit 2 12 pdrs as chasers in the small Sophie (that, btw, fitted 4 pdrs).... he couldn't as the ship almost sunk...

In any case, mounting large guns as chasers is a lot kinder on the ship than mounting them as broadside guns, but for most battles in which we are interested, it is broadside guns that count.

Since this is a game and FLS has already gone pretty wild on gun poundage, maybe someday there will be such a ship. In reality however this was just not possible. The deck structure of smaller ships just couldn't be built strong enough to support the weight - and more importantly - the recoil force of such big caliber guns. The latter of which was the main reason afair why Aubrey couldn't fit the big chasers on his Sophie.

The only real occassion for a small ship to pack a huge punch will be if FLS bring on carronades but as has been stated the game is set too far back in history to allow for this.

I did not think about the recoils on the cannon, it does make sence lol, you bark at your crew to fire port battery next thing you know its going overboard on your starboard side and you have a gaping hole of your port side from the recoil force broke apart your structure. I apreciate the info though i see some people at least thought about it.
