Add a navigation option to OS toolbar.
hold down left mouse button, drag a course and release, press and hold again until the set course is satisfactory.
Right click to activate, or alternatively have a 'follow course' option on the OS toolbar as well.
We're having a big discussion in suggestions about a waypoint system, which would definitely be moar convenient. We can use this or an enhanced version of this though until/unless the waypoint thingie gets picked up ^^;;;

Which is why it won't work AFK, this kind of navigation cannot predict wind change & has too many potential flaws.
Not worth the effort, unstickly it.

Works well enuff so long as you start your navigation in a green polar.

If you do that, you might come up short when the alarm goes off, but you'll never go too far. It's only if you start in a yellow/red (which means you might suddenly go significantly faster if the wind changes and therefore overshoot) that it 'fails', and that can usually be avoided.

Worst case scenario is set the alarm as if you were always in a green arc, if you find yourself forced to sail against the wind. You'll come up short, but it's better to be afk for 10 mins twice than watch your 3000 ton tub sail into the wind for 20 mins straight.

Perhaps it's not worth your effort, but for me, it's let me multitask for hundreds of hours extra.

The only way to get _flawless_ AFK navigation would be if we had a waypoint system. Which I would definitely support.

One other thing to mention... red zones can and will pop up with little warning, and if so there WILL be players looking to sink stuff in the area (better hope it's your side!). If you're doing this, you will get caught now and then, unless your course is plotted to be clear of even potential PvP radii. I have little sympathy for afk haulers and will attack. I'll always accept surrenders, though... oh, sorry... little problem there...

Don't support waypoints, myself. In practice, the game has to make concessions re historical navigation anyway - we always know our longitude for example - so the less automation the better. Plus you really do need to leave in the danger, I think.
