Default There was a problem decompressing the file

I decided to give the game another go after playing beta & a month after release, but sadly I cant even get the game installed never mind get the free trial working.

“There was a problem decompressing the file C:\Program Files\Sony Online Entertainment\Installed Games\Pirates of the Burning Sea\lp_temp\PotBS.exe.gz.
Station launcher will try again after 5 seconds.”

I have tried the work around this via the method outlined by Aegir here:

http://www.burningsea.com/forums/showthread.php?t=59001

4. On the options that come up, click the "Delete Scan Cache" button.

But there is no such option.

I have downloaded & uninstalled/ reinstalled the entire game & launcher 3 times in the past two days with no success, and downloading 6gb on a 1mbps line is hardly fun.

I think Aegir is describing an older version of Station Launcher. Check what version of Station Launcher do you have--I think the latest is 1.1.4. You can get the latest version here: http://launcher.station.sony.com/.

You might also try filing a ticket. Our support is generally pretty quick for issues like this.

The version I have been using is 1.1.4,
I'll get a ticket filled now & see what happens.

Right thought I update this thread, as I got the game working after being told how in a support ticket, so the next time someone encounters this problem they can just Google the answer.

So simple its embarrassing!

“In Windows Vista and Windows 7 the operating system has to be told specifically to run applications as administrator so as to prevent malicious programs from causing harm to your computer. Because Station Launcher needs to be run with administrator privileges, it should be set to run as such.”

1. Right clicking on the game's icon (station launcher) and go to properties
2. Going to the compatibility tab
3. Clicking on "Run this program in compatibility mode for" and select XP Service Pack 2
4. Checking "Run this program as administrator" box if it is not greyed out
5. Clicking Ok
6. Right Clicking once again on the game's icon once again
7. Clicking "Run as Administrator" to start the game

I have had a similar problem. Only it quite plainly has nothing to do with administrator privilige.

The problem is that because I downloaded PotBS via STEAM, Station Launcher is trying to update the wrong directory.

My version of PotBS is in D:/!games/steam/steamapps/common/pirates of the burning seas

Does anyone know how I can redirect the update?

  1. Open Station Laucher.
  2. Login.
  3. On the Station menu select Preferences. The Preferences window will appear.
  4. On the left side list click on Pirates of the burning Sea.
  5. Click on the Change Install Location button. A Browse For Folder window will appear.
  6. Select the folder with Pirates of the Burning Sea in it and click OK.
  7. On the Preferences window click OK.
