Not necessarily unless it was a praticulary weak Nation, would cause Nats to PvP defend their ports from a flip with a new urgency!

As it stands now, Nats do usually defend there ports quite well, as long as said ports are flipped during "normal" playing hours. French ports flipped on Antigua at 3:00PM EST are probably not going to get big PBs no matter what, so if your goal is a fight, don't flip ports against nations and/or during times when no one can play. Problem solved

These arguments are always used by those who have never played a Pirate, the free vanilla ships are for the most part unused except for refits, we can no longer use Nat captures without being perma flagged except for PB's. Pirate econ is not efficient, try making a lineship bundle as a Privateer or NO, MT is almost always in the red and finally RvR is much harder. If the RvR is not going to be evened and the purpose of the Rats is to harass the Nats then make them a major pain even for the two strongest Nations instead of the weakest.

If you really think playing a Rat is the life of Riley then role one.

Do you think a rat should be an easy class or a difficult class to play?

Were not discussing the class per se but the National endgame in RvR. Nothing about a pirate is easy geared towards the RvR.

Except the fact that your ships are free and you don't lose your ports.

I'll even give them the less grind required if we are allowed to fully capture their ports and they have to retake them.

Getting them back is not much help when you must flip and take twice as many port captures to win the map

Exactly & the getting them back works both ways as the nationals also get their pirate defeated ports back, which means that pirates are forced to push a lot harder for the map win before they lose points for control of the ports they have already won.
There is no real incentive for nationals to attack pirate ports or for pirates to attack national ports as they all get them back with no effort!
Currently it is neither here nor there, another only half done feature.
Pillage rewards are also pathetic.
Clearly this might be better balanced with perhaps an extra RvR point for pirate port capture instead as they are not designed to control ports.

Pirates are raiders, they should get no points for controlled ports & all their points from port capture plus better rewards from pillaging imo.

edit: This would require no extra coding & very simple to implement.
All RvR & national classes within need to be made more fit for purpose.
