My friend, who got me into this game but now has quit due to incessant in-game and technical problems (
) had the UDP errors last weekend that so many had (me included) and which Aether and company apparently fixed with Devco. However, unlike most of us apparently, the UDP thing crashed her router and pretty much killed it. It still doesn't work anymore! We had to remove her network and just plug the modem directly into one of her computers for her to be able to access the Internet. Did anyone else have a router killed by this error? I doubt it's a failure of the device because all the lights are green and it's only a year old D-Link (I forget the model number as I'm at work) router. Any and all input would be appreciated.

i had somethinglike this go on...
I didnt really have any in game issues, but all of a sudden the modem would just start quitting. i left it unplugged for like a week, and it still didnt work. I ended up pushing the reset button for an insane amount of time, and the router started working again. My router is also fairly new, so i though this behavior odd, but i cant think of a reason the game would make it crash, but i also cant think of any reason for it to just crash on its own being so new . |

The game isn't going to crash a router. It certainly won't kill it
![]() Did your friend change any of the settings in the Router while trying to get the game to work? I've seen a lot of people messing around with their Routers trying to get PotBS working. 95%+ of people won't need to change anything to get the game working. By default most Router come with a fairly relaxed setup that will allow most applications to work, including PotBS. Playing around with the Router settings when you don't know what you are doing can often cause more harm then good. You won't do any damage but you may stop the Router working the way you want it to. Post again when you have the Router model number.

I'd suggest contacting the router manufacturer about it, if a malformed or broken packet fries the router software.. thats one major bug in their product heh. Perhaps a hard reset of the thing would work (i know some have a pin hole you can poke to force a factory reset, for instance.. would be clearly documented and labelled). Chances are the manufacturers have some kind of flash update of some sort, or eventually would put one out, to fix such things.

She ended up buying a new one which works fine. She still swears the game/UDP error is what did it and I certainly can't prove otherwise.

It was probably going dead. The game showing an error would be a symptom of it going dead.
