The current port contention rates don’t match our design goals. Right now, there’s an imbalance between the amount of PvE needed to create contention relative to the PvP activity and the duration of the PvP zones. We want to make it easier to start and maintain PvP zones, and we’re going to tune the contention rates until we’re satisfied with the number of PvP opportunities in the game world.
This is something that we want to address rapidly. In that light, we’re making two global contention changes during tonight's regular maintenance window (1/30/08 1:30AM - 3:30AM PST). The first change is a major increase to unrest gains. This applies to all forms of unrest, such as Ad-Hocs and turn in missions. Second, we’re increasing the time between the port contention and the actual port battle from 24 hours to 48 hours. These changes aren’t final, and you can expect more contention-related changes in the near future. Long-term, we’ll continue to make adjustments and monitor the situation as the servers mature.

Good work, I'm sure there will be some adjusting issues to come ahead but this is a great start.
EDIT: Have you guys put thought into making port battles say 3 hours? I know that people like the 2 hour time frame cause it can be done by casual players. But as the ships get biggger and have more hitpoints along with speed. They take abit of time to sink and get into the battle. |

Sounds good. I do agree, at the current rate the grind to a PVP zone is long, decay is fast, and port battles are over in a wink if you're not on for a day.
