Oddly I only seem to see the stuttering (or, at least, noticeably) in full screen mode. Since there's quite a learning curve to the game -- ships, economy and all -- I end up playing in windowed mode all the time. Strangely better overall performance, and easier tabbing to browser windows!

There is also a bug if your in a rather large society that causes stuttering. The devs said they are fixing it in the upcoming patch which is 1.1. So thats another reason we are getting bad performance.

Ok, I was getting worried I wouldnt be able to play. I have Vista, 8800, not even a month old comp, duel core w/e, all the works. And I was freaking out cuz I couldnt play in groups without lag, but if the fix is amde and due this week, then im happy, and will wait it out =)

I just bought the game over the weekend and played yesterday for the first time. I have a good internet connection but when I first played the game the dock had a lot of players on it, and it was lagging bad. Even without a lot of players the game has low framerates and gets laggy. Its not to the point where the game is not playable or anything but its a little annoying when it gets choppy. I read on another post that if you have an 8800 series card you should disable the AA to prevent crashes.

I hope the new drivers fix these issuses because if you have an 8800 card this game should run silky smooth.

Here are my PC specs:
Intel Core2 Duo E6600 2.4GHz
GeForce 8800 GTS 320 MB OC (I am using the Dec 20, 2007 latest Nvidia Drivers)
Kingston 2GB DDR2 667MHz Memory
WD 250GB SATA 7200RPM
Windows Vista Ultimate

I'm running a
Q6700 OC'd to 3ghz
2x 8800 GTS 640s in SLi
4 gig ram
2x 500gig WDs at 7200

Any way Vista only runs 2-5 fps slower than XP, I don't get the stutter under either OS. I do have town lag and graphical defects, and stutter in town, but OS I haven't had any issues. I'm running the Dec 12th patch for the vid drivers and the most cirrent vid patch for Vista.

I honestly have less drop outs/disconnects under Vista than I do XP, but I have most of my stuff on my XP partition so I play 90% on XP.

Thumbs up 166fps+

Hi,i tested the game on 1 of my friend`s computer, with standard settings i got 166-170fps,all settings set to max,and i mean all it lowered down to 60-70fps.And it dident matter if i run it at 1280*1024 or 1920*1200,well even get a few more fps at 1920*1200

The computer spec:
E6400 dual core Intel Cpu
GeForce 8800GTS 512MB GDDR3, PCI-Express 2.0 (G92 core)
4GB Cosair 6400 RAM
2x 500 Samsung HD`s (7200rpm disks)
Using windows xp pro latest nvidia drivers.

Almost no loading time then entering a city,no lag in the city`s or in open sea,or in avatar combats.

Runs like a dream.

Well the game at full settings uses about a gig of ram and so does Vista Ultimate. 2 gigs is cuting it close.

Weird... I'm having the complete opposite on Vista. OS gets choppy stuttering with my 8800GTS (did that with my XP & a 7900GS also). Town stutter is pretty much gone after the patch around release. I generally turn down the gfx setting 'max characters displayed' just to be sure. Town lag was also nixed with that potbs patch on my XP and fixed it.

I've noticed with slightly older Nv drivers, there are graphical defects.
Vista Ultimate 32bit machine:
AMD Athlon X2 6000+ 3.0Ghz, GF 8800GTS 320MB vid, 4GB Wintec AmpX 1066Mhz DDR2 (running @800Mhz in AM2+ board)

XP Home 32bit machine:
AMD Athlon 64 3700 2.2Ghz, GF 7900GS, 2GB Wintec DDR 400Mhz

Both machines had exact same OS stutter. The rest of the game was fine - even filled up port battles. Also, on Vista, the server seems to drop me on occasion & I log right back in from the server list whereas on XP that never happened. *shrug*
