On the tenth of August, in the year of our lord one thousand seven hundred and Twenty-three at three hours past noon, nineteen Pirate captains engaged twenty three able British captains in the battle of Santiago.
The map: Vulcan's Caldera. The British fleet, under command of Commodore Berti; Captain Maxwell; Captain Austin, (and representative of the Royal Russian Navy); Captain Damien, set sail from the Square shield close hauling north. Commodore Berti's skirmish group sailed east towards the incoming Pirate fleet. Immediately after the detection of the Pirate fleet, Berti's flagship signaled the main British force. After quick deliberation, Captain Maxwell ordered 180 degree turn to face the south. Three tight lines were formed in a staggered formation. At about thirty minutes past the hour the Pirate fleet came into view. Officers cried, 'BEAT TO QUARTERS!'. A beautiful organized turbulence overcame the British fleet, battle loomed. As the Pirate fleet approached to 400 yards, Captain Austin signaled his fleet to sail northwards to fill the gap between him and Damien. Similarly, Captain Maxwell instructed his squadron to make sail into the incoming Pirate fleet. Captain Maxwell's squad crashed into the Pirate line a three thirds of a way down. "HARD TO STARBOARD LADS", Maxwell cried, "KEEP ON THEIR STERNS. TURN INTO THEM. COURAGE NOW!" The Pirate fleet, consisting of slightly heavier vessels, began to falter. The Pirate fleet routed towards the North. A large number began to escape the battle, but a majority were chased down and promptly dispatched. At the end of the engagement, which was at around ten minutes to four, Davy Jones claimed the souls on board of one British Man'owar, and maybe ten Pirate vessels. Until next time. |

My sister, Mdm. Alysanne Dodge was actually in command. The stability of galleons is unsettling to me and I was belowdecks becoming better acquainted with a rather unsavory hogshead. We do have similar speech patterns, so your confusion is excused.
Brilliant showing by our Russian compatriots, they took a difficult position and stymied the pirate charge with a single loss allowing us to counter charge and demolish the rear of the enemy formation. Additional accolades to the pirates that stuck it out and came at us like a mad pack of howling devils at Puerto de Principe an hour later. There Commodore Berti called us east, he called us west, he called us east again, and when we split betwixt the two the battle did begin. Apologies for the doggerel.
