[quote=jenerik;1217093]I mostly agree with what Groove said about fittings, on my pherc I always used disco reinforcement, board approved powder cache, protoype cannons, 1xrunner, 1xtough sail, 2x heavy flank, and double acc rigs./quote]

I remember when I used Tough Sails on a Pirate Hercules once... It didn't help at all cause it was never demasted- then I switched to Halyards and became OP.

2 Heavy Flanks is fail for a Pirate Hercules though- you go for point blank or die trying.

I've been experementing with an Inyards on the ship recently- looks OP.

I think I can accurately help you in your quest to become more knowledgeable about fittings. The secret to group fighting, especially with the Pherc, is to engage at maximum range. You PHerc has better long range accuracy than any other boat in the game, short of a 1st rate. With this in mind, you need to fit your boat for maximum damage at range, but since you're already the most accurate ship in the battle, you don't get any additional "real dps" out of fitting for accuracy. Since your guns are also very powerful, you don't want to fit cannon damage general or permanent outfittings. The real way to maximize your DPS is you be able to shoot off of one side, then flip very quickly and fire again. The quick flip prevents you from needing to wait for your cannons to reload, as well as reduces the deflection angle of the shot.

To maximize your battle effectiveness, you'll need a turning general, a speed general, and an armor general-just to help you tank a bit better.

In the sail permanents, you want 1 turning mod, 1 upwind mod(to help with the speed loss when turning through the wind).

In the cannon permanents, you want 1 reload mod, 1 speed enhancing mod(again to help with the flip through the wind if you need to do it)

In the hull permanents, you want 1 speed mod, and 1 resistance mod(for tanking.)

My ideal setup was as follows:

Generals:

Discordant Reinforcement 3 - Armor
Fine Cotton Sails - Speed
Counter-weighted rudder - Turning

Permanents:

Sails:
1 Huge Rig Catharpin - Upwind Speed
1 Swallow's Sail - Turning

Cannons:
1 Huge Speed Gun - Reload
1 Huge Lightweight Guns - Speed

Hulls:
1 - Huge Race-built Hull
1 - Huge Heavy Flanked Hull

Let me know if you have any questions
That is the most ridiculous thing i've ever seen. So mean to post this, some noob might do it lol

Never stack two double planks, you will bleed guns so fast.

And you are a demaster's dream.

If anybody insists on using Halyards, I recommend using heavy ones, as they will ease your pain by speeding up your one way trip to the bottom.

halyards are great... on my cerb mc i used to chase down trader sloops!

Otherwise i wouldnt use them. But for 1v1 fitting a ship, it would probably be an option instead of a turn mod on a high accel ship like tig mc/cap mc or higher. Then the buff would be noticeable in turning.

Pherc is gonna sail like a pherc regardless. I wouldnt turn or accel buff it. I wouldnt fail fit the thing. Its a beastly DPS machine. It's a medium heavy tank. It will never handle like a light frigate.

One thing newer players should think of with outfittings: most are percentages. Add 10% to almost nothing and what do you get? If you stack 5 acceleration mods on a treason your acceleration is still half what an unfitted dauntless will do.

Fit to increase the maximum stats of the ship, not to try to compensate for what the ship is not.

no hull mods directly effect gun loss, double planks included, and they mean nothing to someone who is dismasting.

Double Planks > Heavy Flanks at 100% Accuracy. Also one gets shot in the bow in brawls...

3.4k sails is not easy to demast as well, and if anyone choses to demast a pirate hercules- I can 4 shot their sails.

Halyards are OP because they have uses everywhere.
