Ohhhh, you really MUST finish that whole quest chain. Trust me on this. And read the whole dialogue box to. I dang near fell out of my chair laughing so hard at some of the quests.

The players. I can of course only speak for myself, but I play on Roberts as a Pirate and have alts on one or two other servers. I find the playerbase (so far) very helpful and mature.

On Roberts the Pirate-Nation chat is full of people asking (in some cases) very simple questions but there is always somebody who will help out.

Great.

I also heard that there is some kind of courting quest chain in the game a la sid myers Pirates, is this true? Does the main quest line get more interesting as it goes on?
The thing is that the missions in this game are some of the most brilliantly written and engaging quests I've ever done in an MMO (and I've played me some MMO's over the past 8 years or so). Take a couple extra moments to read through them and I think you'll find yourself either getting wrapped up in the story of the mission set or having to constantly put yourself back in your chair because you fell out of it. Sure, some of them will be rather dull, but a few of them are really catchy, like the quest "Falling to Pieces" (AKA The Peg-leg quest).

The specific chain you mention starts with the map you picked up in the tutorial. It's got almost everything you could want in a story...."Fencing, fighting, torture, revenge, giants, monsters, chases, escapes, true love, miracles..."...Well, maybe not all of that, but most of it is in there.

Have to agree, there's no way im paying $15 for another month of the same old grind fest.

I really wanted this game to be something i could love but its just not.

This is what makes an MMORGP - the players. You have to be creative and help with the direction that the game goes. Don't depend on the devs to make all the content for you, have the ability and desire to expand upon what they give you.

Same old grind fest? Hmm. We must be playing different games. Oh, hold on, I'll be right back, I have to turn in these 10 a_giant_rat tails for this quest...

Seems to me you came into the game expecting a 'grind fest', and like all negative prophecies it has become a self fulfilled prophecy for you. The actuality is, it's not a grind fest unless that's how you play it. I dunno, maybe you thought you would buy the game, insert the 'cerebral jack' into your head and the game would whooosh you away into a fantasy land where you wouldn't have to lift a finger to enjoy yourself. Sorry, but that technology doesn't exist yet. A game, like anything else, is dependant upon what you put into it. Please bare in mind I'm not trying to be offensive here (for a change). I'm just stating an observation which may, or may not, apply.

Gotta agree, the pirate chat on Roberts last night in the Bahamas was so much fun, so many friendly and helpful people. In fact it was so fun, I stayed there in Whitby perusing the AH and chatting and helping people instead of heading off to Mexico where all the missions were waiting for me.
Levels will come as and when, you can't put a price on a fun evening

On a side note, at one point someone asked about people's ages (this was about 10pm UK time) and the youngest was 20, most were early to mid 30's and someone was (and I quote) "old enough to remember when the Dead Sea was only sick!". Even though age is not the be all and end all, that was a pretty good sign to me of a mature community.

I know how you feel dude, cause to be honest, I have been playing for about a week now and Sunday night I was going to throw in the towel on this game. Then, I sat down on Monday night and things just started to click for me. Items were selling in the Auction House and I completed a troublesome mission. Now, I'm starting to think about the game all the time (addiction setting in perhaps???).

I know this is a work in progress. I'm not going anywhere, but I'd definitely like to see the economics of the game expanded. If you've ever played Eve, you'll know what I'm talking about. Buy orders would really help out a lot knowing what needs to be produced. I can make all kinds of cheese, but how do I know I'm going to be able to sell it?

I've only PVP'd once (Not that I'm scared to die, I've played Eve for over 2 years as a pirate) and got my rear end handed to me, me lvl 8 him lvl 26. It was fun though. He asked me to surrender... I don't think so m8, I'm going down with the ship. lol

Anyway, its an ok game that I think by summer will really be awesome.

I played for hours last night, doing the maps story quests, and quests out of Cat Island, quit only cause I was falling asleep at the keyboard and was afraid of losing my new 'Corsair' Xebec from stupid sleepy mistakes lol. But I didn't want to stop playing! I just had to.
