Quick Q to the developers, have you done something to some of the render settings?
Running a Fresh Install of Win 7 x64, and a fresh copy of station launcher etc, and lag has been getting worse each time FLS do a maint. With 1 client up i can max every setting and turn on all extras and have 0 lag, with 2 even at min settings and all effects off i lag like mad. System: Hex Core i7, 18gb Ram, Nvidia 9800gtx same as always. I have tracked it down to the following things (not sure which one yet), but I am guessing NavMeshRenderer. [ShipManager] ; ship scale on the sailing map sailingMapScale=0.45 shipServerUpdateInterval=0.05 battleMarkerUpdateInterval=0.5 [CONSTRAINTS_SHIP] pitchRestricted = true maxPitch = 2; minPitch = -89; offsetRadiusMax = 60000; offsetRadiusMin = 1; offsetHeightMax = 2500; offsetHeightMin = -10; enforceFloor = true; floorInCM = 100; [CONSTRAINTS_SAILINGMAP] pitchRestricted = true; maxPitch = -.25; minPitch = -89; enforceFloor = true; floorInCM = 100; offsetHeightMax = 75000; offsetHeightMin = 1500; offsetRadiusMax = 450000; offsetRadiusMin = 200; [AvatarManager] maxAvatarTabTargetRangeM = -1 maxAvatarTabTargetFOVDeg=360 [Logger] chat_messages=info [NavMeshRenderer] width = 4096 height = 4096 obeyTexturePrefs = false

Quote:
Ping Lag: Your ping (length of time a packet of information travels between you and the server) increases thus slowing down the speed at which you connect... this generally slows down the games responses. Packet Loss: Packets of information get dropped from the data being streeamed between yourslef ... this generally causes what is known as rubber banding (your avatar bouncing back to a previous location) or freeze telporting (your character will freeze then unfreeze and carry out every command you tried to do while it was frozen). These are the two main types of connection lag. However lag can be produced by other components in your machine, for example... Graphics Lag: This is your frame rate dropping too low to sustain smooth animation, your avatar will move and animate jerkily, sometimes freezing for a second or two etc. Processor Lag: Soometimes your processor when it has been running for a while and gotten too hot can cause the game to be processed slowly and/or intermitently. Memory lag: Simply put your memory fills up and makes the game slow down. Harddrive Lag: Windows uses a portion of your harddrive to store memory if you're main memory is insufficient for the current task. Slower and older harddrives will access this virtual memory at a slower rate than your memory causing stutter and long loading times. Most noticable when walking into or turnign to face an area you haven't been since loading the game, you will notice stuttrering as you turn or move. Most fo the hardware lag can be cause by overheating, faulty compenents, driver conflicts and software conflicts. And then on the developer side of things there arw a million and one things that can be wrong with the games code that can cause lag as well. |
