Default Nation Chat Moderation

I really think this is needed, obviously FLS don't have the money to pay anyone to do this but I'd quite happily do it for free. Obviously, you'd have to monitor the activities of the person doing the moderating, to ensure there's nothing unfair happening.

I just don't think it's a good idea to allow detrimental bickering and argument to occur in nation that new players can see, and be instantly put off by. This probably applies to britland more than anywhere else.

If people want to fight, bicker, insult and argue let them take it to TS/Vent servers or private messages. Please get some moderation in the chats, most games that are worth anything have some form of chat moderation that keeps arguing down and the talk civil.

In the first weeks I started playing, I recall huge arguments over who does more for what, who doesn't contribute, who caused losses here and flips there (not to mention any names). Common consensus is that it has always been that way, and I tend to agree. Time for a change maybe?

Since you are still playing, I don't see how new players would benefit from censorship.

The game benefits from censorship, not you or me.

the game benefits? but the players dont? (you and me)

I think having a profanity filter and ignore functions is plenty.
Volunteer mods are often a bit erm ..... well they are eager to be in a position of authority without payment/compensation .... that attracts the wrong kind of people to become mods. It happens LOADS in F2P and browser games.

The fact that any player-mods would in turn require monitoring saves the staff (the game) no time either.... im not sure how this works for the game? ... and the players (you and me) can block profanity and ignore any acc causing a problem.

You're being silly, like everyone else on this game. The games population is already low, it's not like this is a 15k online at once game where some in house bickering doesn't matter. The people bickering in this game you will encounter everyday, and any new player realises that quickly. When they are constantly fighting and crying, new players are not going to want to be part of that nation, and so they'll leave. How does that benefit an already declining game, when the fact it has contributed to decline is already apparent after the years it has been active.

People have to be moderated, and that's the way things are. If there wasn't law on the streets do you think half the people would be civil? If you cause disturbance in reality, you get cautioned, if you continue you get a few warnings, if you persist you'll be detained.

If the nation chats were always civil, new players would feel more confident in asking and even being involved. But this game doesn't care about new players, only the current ones - which is why it's on its last legs.

It's not like i'm saying people can't talk, i'm saying the rage between players after PB failures, the hate and blame over flips/unsuccessful flips and the massive ego collisions need to have someone there to say, stop or be muted.

The only valid point was the wrong kind of people becoming mods, which is also a completely flawed argument. If I use a real world example again, you could say the same for most people of and in positions of power. They like the fact they have power, that's why the job appeals to them. That doesn't make those positions any less vital or important to the continuation of the society we live in.

A mod can't just go and mute people without any sort of reason, obviously there'd have to be a system in place to keep an eye on what that mod does and the activities. It would be something FLS would have to consider. For the past years the games biggest issue has been its raging player base, it is the only thing that hasn't been addressed.

I made several valid points. and you havent countered them.,
FLS say they dont have the staff and money to pay them to sit in chat to monitor players OR player-mods (they would still have to monitor the mods) so your suggestion is shot out of the sky by that alone.... not a valid issue? *sigh*

''For the past years the games biggest issue has been its raging player base''
I had to stop laughing so this reply took me a bit longer than expected ...
where was I .. oh yes.
The biggest issue of the entire game ?
laughable.

FLS please dont waste a second on this suggestion until other valid problems and bugs are dealt with .,.. and even then dont fret - the current system works just fine.

I tend to think you are the one being sily with this suggestion to be honest..... and claiming it would fix the ''biggest issue with the game''. c'mon dude. do you see how you sound?

Actually FLS is required to moderate the chat channels. They will step in from time to time like yesterday. They don't want to step in to every little argument. But if you report somebody they pretty much have to look into every single case. To that end, FLS has given us 2 tools to deal with trolls and spamers

Ignore- for that fellow who doesn't know he is anoying.

Report for spam- for the fellow who does know he is anoying.

Its simple and it works.

All you need to do tell the person they are being anoying. Say something like this "FLS has rules about [insert bad behavior here]"
For reference http://www.burningsea.com/page/commu...eneral#conduct

Don't argue with a troll they know everything, thats their game, dont play it. If they say something like, "Just put me on ignore if you dont like it" then they are admitting guilt case closed. (right click their name in the chat window. select report for spam). some times they will say something like "FLS doent care or There is never a GM on" and sometimes they will dare you to do it. PLease dont hesatate. Reporting them will help reduce the loss of our player base.

Putting a troll on ignore does not work. Because you have to deal with everybody else that is falling for the trolling.

Ignoring this issue is one of the main things that led to the loss of AREA chat.

If just a few you in Britland follow this simple guideline you will clean up your nation chat very fast. It may take a few days at first. It all depends on how many start doing it.
