Question Another newbie question: mission levels

I've never felt so newbie in a game, and I've played a lot of them.

My question: I'm going into a mission and sometimes, the level of the opposition is too high and I'm unable to complete it, even if I retry it many times. Is there anyway to see the level of difficulty of a mission?

I saw a "difficulty factor" (I believe that's the term used) but all my missions are "1".

It is very vague.

When you look at your mission list. a Green color means the mission is below your level. Brown/yellow means it is at your level. Red means it is above your level.

Difficulty can be adjusted by visiting the Port Captain, but the default is always the easiest level of difficulty.

I have seen nothing that tells you how far below or above your level a particular mission is.

Oh.

I thought I read somewhere that the mission color had to do with the type of mission, not the level.

If that's the case, does the color indicator take into account the ship I have? I may be level 8, I still have the fallback ship from level 1. I say that because I did a green mission where I had to stop a ship from escaping and I could never manage to hurt it enough or catch up to it.

I'm not sure this is true...Right now at level 8 I have four green colored missions that I am completely unable to solo but have just done a couple red missions that were ezmode.

A lot depends on the mission, if its a group mission or not, tactics used.. and your ship.

Remeber in this game, its more about the ship then your level.

In general Red is hard, Green is easy. Group missions are MUCH harder then their color. But its hit or miss on many

The level of the mission does not take into consideration the ship you are using. Missions are based upon the region they are located in . Beginner missions are in the starter areas for ranks 1-15. The mission levels themselves are grouped by port. So all the starter port missions would range from level to to around level 7 or 8. The next port in line might have missions from 7 to 12, the next port 12-15, ect.

Typically you will outlevel the missions in a port before you run out of missions. So if a mission is proving too hard you can just skip over it and try other missions or go to the next port down the line. There are over 1000 missions for each nation and you only need to do about 450-500 of them to level to 50. You can also come back later in your Straslund Frigate and beat the pants off those missions that gave you problems.

Yeah, but there is some annoyance with that. Like I was doing a mission that was green. The NPCs were in fact level 10 to my level 13. Great, HOWEVER... they were sailing 'Corsair' Xebecs. That's a level 16 ship. My ship only being level 12, they tore me apart VERY quickly.
