The Basics
So you feel like you've outgrown your old ship, and it's time for an upgrade. There are several ways you can obtain new ships—first though, you must understand the basics:
Ship Deeds
A Ship Deed is essentially a document granting the owner of the Deed rights to a ship. We discuss Deeds in-depth in our Economy guide, but basically Ship Deeds can or stored in your Ship's Hold or Warehouse, and many can be traded (between players or in the Auction House). But the most important fact about Ship Deeds is that they can be converted to Ships!
To convert a Ship Deed into a ship follow these steps:
- Locate your Ship Deed. Keep in mind that to convert the Deed to a ship, you must be in the same port as the Deed.
OR the Deed may be located in your Warehouse: On the Toolbar click on the Economy button. The Economy window will appear.
OR the Deed may be located in your Auction House Pickups Tab: In the Shop talk to the Auctioneer to open the Auction House window. Click on the Pickups tab.
- Right click on the Ship Deed
. - To convert the Ship Deed into a ship select Trade this deed in for a ship. A window will appear with a field where you can enter a custom name for your ship.
- Enter a name for your ship and click OK. The Ship Deed will disappear and an actual ship will appear in your Dockyard.
To find your Dockyard you will need to talk to the Harbor Master.
Harbor Master
|
| Harbor Masters can be distinguished by the Anchor above their heads and the model boat in their hands. |
There is a Harbor Master conveniently located in every port near the dock. Harbor Masters can be distinguished by the Anchor above their heads and the model boat in their hands.
You can also find the Harbor Master on your local map by looking for this icon:
. To open your local map, on the Toolbar click on the Local Map button
.
The Harbor Master's main job is to take care of your Dockyard. By default, your ships are stored in your Dockyard, and you can store up to five ships—including the ship you are currently sailing.
To enter your Dockyard simply talk to the Harbor Master, and on the chat window that appears click Enter your dockyard.
To switch among the ships located at your current port, on your Dockyard simply select the ship you wish to switch to and click on the Switch to Ship button. A confirmation will appear, and to switch to the selected ship click Yes.
Book Passage
Consider that all of your ships are stored in your Dockyard and that the Harbor Master will allow you to sail any ship in your Dockyard. If you want to sail a ship berthed in port other than the one you are located, the Harbor Master can book passage for you (i.e., quickly transport you to the other ship).
To have the Harbor Master book passage for you select the ship you want to sail, and on the Dockyard window click on the Transport to Ship button. The Harbor Master will ask you to confirm whether you want to book passage to the port in which your ship is berthed. Click Yes, and you will be transported to your desired port.
You might want to take advantage of this ability and, for example, leave one ship at your nation's capital so you can transport there without worrying about the time or danger involved in Open Sea travel.
Also, keep in mind that any items in your Ship's Hold will not be transported with you. Only items in your personal inventory will be transported—meaning that this technique only good for transporting your character quickly, not your goods.
To access these inventories, on the Toolbar click the Inventory button
. The Inventory window will appear with tabs for your Personal and Ship's Hold Inventories. You may also access the inventory of any ship in your current port by talking to the Harbor Master.
