The Role-Playing Story Arc Flag Contest!
| 10/02/2007 | News | Discuss
This from our friend Gavin Irby, Flying Lab Software Mission Designer working on the Role-Playing Story Arc missions:
“The RP Story arc is content complete and in queue for testing, but there’s one little bit of content left too add. How would YOU like to be the one to do it?
Part of the back story involves a conflict between the Knights of Malta and Algiers, which gets carried over to the Caribbean about 60 years before our game begins. By following the RP story arc, you’ll get a chance to look back into history and relive these events in a high level group mission.
For this mission, I need flags and sails to represent the Maltese and Algerian factions. After seeing all the great work our community did in the previous flag and sail contests, we decided that would be a perfect way to get these as well.
Here’s a brief description of both groups, as well as an example of their flag. Feel free to take creative liberties or, even better, show off your superior historical knowledge!
Knights of Malta:
The Knights of Malta ran a vassal state under the Spanish viceroy of Sicily. They are a branch of the Knights Hospitaller order, which was founded in Jerusalem to provide care for pilgrims to the Holy Land.
Here is an example image of their flag:

Barbary Pirates:
The Barbary Pirates were privateers who operated out of North Africa, preying upon shipping in the western Mediterranean Sea. They were part of the Ottoman Empire, but acted with a great deal of independence. From my (admittedly limited) research, they would have flown the Ottoman flag, which is depicted below. If you can attest to a different flag, feel free to submit it, along with your reasons.

Thank you in advance to everyone who participates. The winner will receive a chest of booty, curtesy of Aether!”—-
You heard it here first! For more discussion and clarification, as well as to submit your entries, visit the Roleplaying-Story Arc thread in the ‘Discuss’ link below!
We will be taking submissions until Tuesday, October 9th, so hurry!
Editor’s Note: All entries considered for this contest will adhere to our 2D Community Content Guidelines.
Enjoy, won’t you?
