Ship Storage & Mission Sharing

Patch 1.17 contains some cool new features, as demonstrated by Lum’s devlog yesterday. I’m here to reveal two more that are coming in this build: Ship Storage and Mission Sharing!

Ship Storage

You’ve always been able to have four ships in addition to the one you’re currently sailing. This is ok… until you wanted another ship. You’d have to scuttle one of your ships to make room in your dock for a new one. Well, no more.

Starting in patch 1.17, you’ll be able to store up to 100 ships in your nation’s capital. The way your dockyard works isn’t changing- you can still have four ships in different ports (in addition to your active ship) and teleport between them. The difference now is that you can sail one of those ships to your capital city, visit the Harbor Master and ask him to baby sit it for you until you decide to take it out again, thus opening a regular dockyard slot. You do have to empty out the cargo hold before you store it, but you can leave the permanent outfitting equipped.

Here’s a preview of what you’ll see at the Harbor Master:

There’s no limit to how many of each ship type you can store, so if you want to collect 100 gunboats, go for it. If you want to collect every ship you can sail, go for it. We hope players will store ships they want to use in port battles or in skirmishes, leading to a lot more variety in battles.

Mission Sharing

While there actually isn’t that much to say about Mission Sharing one other than “You can share missions with your groupmates!”, we think it’s a very cool addition to the game. Of course, you can’t share solo-only missions, but any other mission you’re eligible for is sharable. When you let someone share one of their missions with you, you’ll see the same text you would as if you were standing in front of the mission giver.

We hope you enjoy the new features in 1.17, and we look forward to hearing your feedback when the build hits the Testbed server in the next few days!
