Remember some time ago when we told you that new port battle maps were coming? Say hello to Vulcan’s Caldera! This towering inferno is the newest addition to our family of watery battlefields. Once a towering island, the shifting magma below the surface collapsed the central mass, plunging it under water. The basin left by this collapse gave birth to a new volcano, as the magma sought a way to escape to the surface. The result is a deadly ring surrounding a towering inferno, worthy to be named for the Roman god of fire.

The Defenders hold the inner space of this ring, while the Attackers must come in from the outer ring to reach their targets. The wind favors the defenders when it comes from the Northeast, but when the wind is in the West, the attackers have the upper hand.

Situated on the edge of this hellish mount is Fort Spire. This defensive structure winds around an igneous spike that provides both a foundation and a bulwark against devastating magma flows. From this western vantage point, the fort can command a full half of the Caldera, standing in most winds between incoming fleets and the town it protects.

If you make it past Fort Spire’s guns, or a happy wind blows you in from the East or South, you can set your sites on Puerto del Principe. The many paths and tangled alleys of this town offer many chances for ambushes or flanking maneuvers.

As with previous port battle additions, we have tweaked the random selection of maps to have Vulcan’s Caldera appear with more frequently than the older maps with which you are familiar. Thanks to Justinian, you will now be able to see which map has been selected as soon as the battle is scheduled! Just open the Conquest UI and mouse over the entry for the Port Battle you’re interested in…

As always, good luck and happy hunting!
