A few months after release, and after we’d taken care of the initial fires, we sat down and took stock of where we were, and where we wanted to go. It’s always an interesting process doing this, because you get …

Today we take a moment to recognize one of our most talented flag designers, and all around kooky guy, Toshiro!
In addition to being a merciless thorn in my community manager side, Toshiro has been a long time member of the Pirates of the Burning Sea community. As a leader in our 2D Steering Committee, he’s been an amazingly active and important contributor to our user content program.
Toshi has a lot more to share, and you can read all about his thoughts on being a part of the Pirates of the Burning Sea community by clicking this link!
So congratulations Toshiro, thanks for everything you do!

You may remember when we shared the brilliant work of Rik Vargard’s machinima efforts from last week’s Machinima Magnifique news post. Well, Rik just dropped us a note to say that his submission was selected as a finalist in the 2008 machinima contest for the Paris Video Game Convention! Click here for a translation of the announcement.
We are very excited for Rik, and wish him the best of luck in his efforts!

Would you enjoy a closer glimpse into our day-to-day dealings? Do you ever wonder: When are the next round of Devlogs going to be done? How is the Russian launch going? What did Rusty have for lunch? How was PAX? What’s going on with
The Pirates of the Burning Sea staff have been conducting a communication experiment over the last few weeks involving a web-application called Twitter. Twitter is a tool that allows us to share brief, one sentence updates that detail our tasks, activities and adventures throughout any given day. Flying Lab Software has always had a commitment to communicating as much information as we possibly can and Twitter gives us an easy outlet for sharing more with you.
If taking a look behind the scenes and getting to know FLS staffers a little better sounds interesting to you, then you are going to want to sign up for Twitter!
Once you have, then check out this thread for additional details on how to find us.
Important: FLS staffers will be listed as FLS_Theirnamehere, but we can’t prevent other people from using that naming convention. Remember, FLS staffers have no need to ask you for personal information related to your account. If you run into someone suspicious, be sure to report them right away using our support system, as that will allow us to utterly destroy them.
We hope you enjoy the FLS tweets, and we look forward to developing even more interesting and informative ways of communicating with the Pirates of the Burning Sea community!

Pirates of the Burning Sea had one of our most successful shows ever at PAX ‘08! With an talented group of players and Flying Lab Staff on hand to walk folks through the demo (many thanks to DPI209, Adythiel, Klaste, Kungtotte, Tom Savage and LoJo for hanging out at the booth- best demo team ever!), as well as helping to fire our T-shirt cannons at the innocent, and not so innocent (we are looking at you, Champions Online and Privateer Press. Hope you enjoyed the assault!).
In addition to talking to literally thousands of potential Pirates of the Burning Sea fans, we spent a goodly amount of time talking with the press. Here are some of the articles that have been published thus far.
Pirates of the Burning Sea: PAX Interview with Chris Pramas: MMOFury
“This year’s PAX was a huge success, and so was the booth that housed the swashbucklin’ crew of Pirates of the Burning Sea. The crowds got deep and all stations were booked for a glipse at what Flying Lab Software has been up to with the last several patches…and the crowds were pleased.”
Flying Lab shows off Pirates of the Burning Sea at PAX 08: GamerTell
“If you haven’t played this game yet, then you really should.”
PAX08: Pirates of the Burning Sea: RCE Universe
“As I overheard someone say, “Everyone loves Ninjas, Wizards and Pirates”. In that spirit, I would have been remiss not to visit the Pirates of the Burning Sea booth. Bedecked with large cannons, treasure chests and female pirates, I must admit the beer mugs with “Getting Booty Since 1720” emblazoned on them were a significant draw for me.”
Getting Ready for Talk Like a Pirate Day: VE3D
“For those of you who have been fans of Flying Lab Software, you’ll no doubt remember that Pirates of the Burning Sea is the official video game of International Talk Like A Pirate Day. There’s no better way to celebrate this auspicious holiday than to log in and party with the grog-swilling, boot-plundering founders of International Talk Like a Pirate Day, Cap’n Slappy and Ol’ Chumbucket.”
There are more articles on the way, we’ll be sure to keep you posted!
Enjoy, won’t you?
