As you’ve probably seen in Taelorn’s recent devlogs, patch 1.4 has a lot of important changes to careers, especially for Pirates. Now that this patch is ready for testing, my job is to be sure you’re going to like it. We need players like you to play with these new changes and give us feedback before we release them into the live game. If you’ve never played on Testbed before, check out this post for information about how to get started.
This month on Testbed, we’re focusing heavily on the new career skills and the early game experience. You can help give us feedback about those things, and anything else that you think we should know, in two different ways:
Create a new character:
Starting right away, we’re inviting all players to make a new character on Testbed. Play the career you know and love best, or try out something new; both views provide useful feedback. We’ll be collecting some specific feedback about career skills here and early game missions here. You can give general feedback about everything in 1.4 over here.
Level 50 characters:
We’re also dying to see how the new and revised skills hold up in high-level PvP fights. Volunteers for this playtest will be leveled to 50 and given ships and outfitting appropriate for PvP. For all next week, we’re designating the port of Cabo Raphael as the place to be for PvP on Testbed.
For this part of the test, we need volunteers who already have a level 50 character in the live game. If you’d like to volunteer, either individually or as part of a group, email usabilitylab@flyinglab.com with your level 50 character name and server. Also include the name of the character on Testbed you want to play with. GMs will distribute ships and other goodies to the first 100 qualified volunteers on Monday between 12:00 and 3:00pm PST.
Your participation in these playtests is tremendously useful in helping us to fine-tune things before the patch goes live, and will play a big part in making 1.4 a patch to remember! Even if playing on Testbed isnt for you, dont forget that the Playability Lab forum is always open for live game feedback!

We are very excited to announce that we will be beginning public testing of our new User Content 2.0 initiative today! While we’ve done extensive internal testing, it is important to us that we gather your feedback and experiences before these new User Content features are installed in a more permanent fashion.
We’ll run this test throughout the weekend, allowing our customers to try out the new voting process, as well as post new flag and sail submissions for review. We will in turn be spending some time making sure our admin process is in order by approving user content submissions using an exciting suite of UC 2.0 administrative features that will significantly improve the speed in which your items are approved for use in game.
We want to thank everyone for their patience during this time, we sincerely hope you enjoy our efforts. We look forward to adding your thoughts and suggestions to the process!
