Tips and Tricks

Bargains—always be on the lookout for a bargain. As in the real world, the rules of supply and demand can play a vital role in the game's economy. If you see an overabundance of a particular item, consider buying.

Warehouse—use your Warehouse storage space. When you come across a great deal on an item you use often, buy an abundant amount. You can store items in your Warehouse at no additional charge.

Search the markets—remember to search the markets. The listing price for items can vary immensely from port to port and region to region. Use to the Harbor Master to transport yourself into different regions to see what other markets have to offer.

Store goods in dry-docked ships—if you run out of storage space or cannot afford a Warehouse, use a dry-docked ship to store items. You can place a ship in any port's dockyard and use it for extra storage space.

Find a niche—look for a niche in the market. You can get a feel for what's lacking in the market by examining the history and sales trends of certain items, and simply interacting with other players. If an often used item is constantly out of stock, consider producing that item.

Offer lower prices—look for over-priced items. If someone has a monopoly on a common item, that player can generally charge whatever they want. Be the one to bust their monopoly by giving them some lower priced competition.

Move items efficiently—be efficient when moving items from port to port. Do not waste a trip between two ports by leaving with an empty hold.

Work with other players—work deals with other players. If you can, eliminate the middle man (the Shop, the Junk Merchant, etc.). Teaming up with other players is a great way to make money fast. As we mentioned in the Civilian Ships section, building some of the Larger line ships can be near impossible if you attempt it alone. Offer discounts to others in exchange for discounts on their products.

Accept partial orders—Use the Accept Partial Order feature when buying goods from the Shop to save yourself money.
