Sailing is probably the most important skill to understand. An expert sailor can more easily complete basic missions, compete in ship combat with other players and NPCs (non-player characters), haul goods across the Caribbean, and more.

Of course players do not start off as expert sailors—they must practice and learn the finer points of sailing. This guide will explain just those points divided into three sections:

• The Novice Sailing section covers the most basic elements of sailing.
• The Ship Types and Specifications section covers the differences between Scout Ships, Warships, and Merchant Ships. This section also discusses ship specifications.
• The Expert Sailing section covers sailing techniques and includes a spreadsheet with a significant amount of information on ship speeds.
