Does He Not Bleed?
Overview
Talk to Timoteo DonantTo accept the mission, speak to Timoteo Donant. If you have just completed The Seraphim Fleet, you should be standing right in front of him. Otherwise, sail to Gibara. Timoteo Donant will be located in the Magistrate's Office. It's time to finally deal with the Thief: While you've been dealing with the Thief and his many followers, I've learned he is a devotee of the so-called 'Naumann Heresy.' Are you familiar with it? This fellow Naumann posits that once you become close enough to God—attain a certain level of holiness which he, of course measures—you can no longer truly sin. These Naumannist, therefore, try to demonstrate to the world they have reached a level of godliness truly above worldly concerns. I believe the Thief of Pride is devoted to expounding the 'virtues' of the sin of pride, but beyond that I don't care if he thinks he's John the Baptist. I'm not usually one to tell a man what to believe, but this fellow has become truly dangerous. Gather any allied captains you think may be willing to help and make your landing on the beach near the fortress. Defeat the Thief, but if you are able, do not kill him. I think the best way to nip this creeping Naumannism in the bud is to parade one of the Naumann's most successful disciples through the town square. —Timoteo Donant To begin the mission, speak with the Coxswain and click on Does He Not Bleed?. Defeat the Thief of PrideOnce your character arrives in The Bastion of the Host (near Gibara) you and your allies will be charged with defeating not only the Seraphim Lieutenants (Marked as Captains of Decadence), but you will also have to defeat the Thief of Pride. Move cautiously and slowly, attacking small groups of enemies. Two of the Captains are located on the upper level of the fort and one is located in the middle on the lower level. Once you defeat the Lieutenants, attack The Thief of Pride—he will be located on the upper level. Just before defeating the Thief, he will surrender. Talk to him. The Thief of Pride: "How—how can this be? I am the Thief of Pride!" You: "When I'm through with you, you'll be Thief of Nothing" The Thief of Pride: "How dare you speak to me that way? I am as a god!" You: "'As a god' won't cut it here. Unless you can shoot lighting bolts out of your hands or call down the heavenly host, you're coming with me." The Thief of Pride: "Whatever you say! Just... just don't hit me in the face! Not my beautiful face!" After you conversation, you may leave the mission. Collect Your RewardsReturn to the Magistrate's Office and speak with Timoteo Donant to collect your reward. Timoteo Donant: "I heard the gunfire from my office window, Captain [your name]. And since you are alive, I must assume the plan was a success?" You: "He may have thought he was a god, but god or no, he should have spent more time studying swordplay. The Thief of Pride is finished, and I'll have him brought ashore momentarily and then you can do whatever you wish with him. I’m through with these Naumannists... once I'm paid, that is." Timoteo Donant: "You may be through with the Naumannists, but I think you should be certain the Naumannists are through with you before you say such things. They are an insidious group, and I fear a reckoning with the Naumann himself is inevitable. But we are here to speak of your success, and I should not dwell so on what neither of us may be able to change. Please accept this along with the gratitude of all Gibara's citizens, Captain. Congratulations on your rousing victory." You will be rewarded with Boss's Commendation for Excellence (5), Figurehead Shield, Gold 1670 doubloons, and at least Experience 800 points. Figurehead Shield is described below: Your crew embraces the deadly sin of pride, shrugging off the petty and inconsequential shots of their unworthy foes. Related Missions
