,

This is a list of frequently asked questions about using and contributing to Encyclopædia Piratica. If your questions are not answered here, feel free to submit them using the Discuss link on this page.

What is Encyclopædia Piratica?

Encyclopædia Piratica is a resource for information about Pirates of the Burning Sea. This information can include mission walkthroughs, game guides, ship statistics, and more. Encyclopædia Piratica is essentially an online Pirates of the Burning Sea encyclopedia.

You can find articles either by accessing the links on the Main Page, or by searching Encyclopædia Piratica using the search box. Because Encyclopædia Piratica is built on MediaWiki software, it can be used much like Wikipedia and many other wikis that you may have used.

Categories such as these can be found at the bottom of every article

All articles are grouped into Categories, which you can find at the bottom of every article. Clicking on a category reveals other articles in that same category. Searching through categories is a good way to search for information when you don't know exact search terms, or when you are just browsing for fun.

What if I see an error on a page?

If you would like to report a typo or error, click the discuss link and you will be directed to a discussion thread about the article. Simply, describe the error in discussion thread.
Note: you must have a valid burningsea forum account in order to post in the discussion thread.

Can I edit a page?

Encyclopædia Piratica can only be edited by members of the Encyclopædia Piratica Team. You may suggest an edit by clicking on the discuss link (see What if I see an error on a page).

Otherwise, you may apply to join the Encyclopædia Piratica Team by filling out a simple application. Joining the team has its perks:

  • Meet the Devs—you'll get a chance to interact with the very devs you've heard on the podcast!
  • Advance Notice of Changes—if we're creating changes to the game that should be recorded on the wiki, we'll get this information out to the team, so that the wiki can be changed by the time the changes go live.
  • Wiki Skills—if you don't know a lot (or anything) about contributing to a wiki, this is your chance to learn. If you're interested in contributing, but need help learning about WikiMarkup, the team will provide you the help you need.
  • Ultra Amazing One-of-a-Kind Shiny Forum Badge—yes, you read that right. A forum badge! As you know, forum badges let everyone without a badge know their inferior status.

How can I suggest an article?

If you cannot find an article on Encyclopædia Piratica that you think should exist, you may suggest it in the EP General Discussion thread. The Encyclopædia Piratica Team will review your request and take the appropriate action.
Note: you must have a valid burningsea forum account in order to post in the discussion thread.

Keep in mind that suggestions may not be appropriate for Encyclopædia Piratica, or we may decide not to publish a suggestion immediately for a variety of reasons.

I'm looking for a specific page—how can I find it?

If you're looking for a specific page, there are a few ways of finding it.

  • Search box—enter a couple key words into the Search box and press ENTER.
  • Sidebar—we list some popular pages on the navigation sidebar (to the left of this page under Encyclopædia Piratica.
  • Main Page—we have a list of Suggested Pages on the Main Page. These pages are are designed to cover some of the basic game systems.

What is the Encyclopædia Piratica Team?

The Encyclopædia Piratica is the team of volunteer players who, along with Flying Lab Employees, are responsible for all of the content on Encyclopædia Piratica. This sounds like a big task, but when every works together, responsibility for each team member is pretty small.

Generally, each team member will be responsible for watching over a small amount of content—usually whatever that player has created or edited. Generally, each team member also will be expected to add some content; although, often players join the team because they have written a walkthrough, and they want to put it on Encyclopædia Piratica.

I want to join the Encyclopædia Piratica Team, but I don't know if I'm qualified.

If you want the join the team, but you're not sure if you will get accepted, then fill out the application. We want all the help we can get, so don't worry about not being accepted.

How can I apply to join the Encyclopædia Piratica Team?

Simply take a look at the Join the EP Team page, and then fill out the application. We normally take a few days to review the application, so don't worry if you don't hear from us immediately.
