The Grass is Always Greener
OverviewVidál Diaz PerezTo accept the mission, talk to Vidál Diaz Perez (Bartender). To find Perez, sail to Trinidad and enter El Oro de Pizarro (the local tavern). Vidál Perez is the bartender. When you talk to Perez, you will find out that he has a message for you: The Duke of Gevaar has left a message for someone answering your description, Captain [your name]—'a successful captain with a flair for strategy,' the messenger said. I wouldn't keep him waiting; those noble folk don't have much in the way of patience. —Vidál Diaz Perez Accept the mission, and Perez will mark your local map with the home of the Duke of Gevaar (AKA Beauregard Schneider). Talk to Beauregard SchneiderLeave the bar and follow your map to the Duke's home. You'll find the Duke in the hall. Speak to him, and he'll tell you about the mission: Beauregard Schneider: "Captain [your name], a pleasure to meet you. I've heard many things about your adventures, and I think you and I will be fast friends. I am short of fast friends these days. My cousin, the Duke of Peligro, and I were once as close as brothers, but I am afraid jealousy... envy. . . call it what you will, tore us apart. No matter what I had, Cousin Lucas had to have the same thing, but just a little bit better. If I purchased a distillery with a yield of a hundred galls a year, he bought one yielding a hundred and five. If I receive a citation from the king, he has to have one from the queen. When I hired the finest chef in France, he hired the finest chef in Belgium" You: "I imagine you enjoyed better crêpes." Beauregard Schneider: "Beside the point! Today, the worm will turn! And I will tell you how: Cousin Lucas's ship, the "Admiral Vance," is nearly identical to my own ship, except for the more expensive cloth that went into her sails. It is a purely cosmetic difference, but it makes Lord Peligro's ship that much more desirable than mine. This cannot be allowed to continue. Perhaps you can now guess what I have in mind. I want you to steal the Duke Peligro's personal vessel so I may make her my own—you'll find her at anchor, I believe, at the coordinates I've marked on your chart. In case I haven't mentioned it, I won't take no for an answer. Fair seas, Captain." That's your cue to leave. To begin the mission, simply talk to the Coxswain and click The Grass is Always Greener. Capture the Admiral VanceOnce your ship arrives at Cayo Macho de Afuera (near Trinidad) you will be charged capturing the Admiral Vance. If you destroy the ship, you will fail the mission. Therefore, to capture the ship without destroying it we recommend boarding the ship and defeating her crew in boarding combat. Of course you will have to watch out for the Admiral Vance's escorts, but you will have a few allies of your own to help you out with that. Collect Your RewardsOnce you've completed the mission return to speak with Beauregard Schneider to collect your rewards. Beauregard Schneider: "My agents inform me you've sailed into port with a prize in tow, Captain. A prize matching the description of the "Admiral Vance." Are my agents right" You: "Indeed they are, sir. And almost without a tear in her sails." Beauregard Schneider: "The sails are torn? Oh bother. . . I suppose I'll have to have her rigger replaced. . . yes, there is much to do. No need to keep this a secret [your name], incidentally. I relish the thought of Cousin Lucas's indignity when he hears he no longer owns the finest ship in Trinidad." You will be rewarded with a Gold 1580 doubloons and at least Experience 680 points.
