The Green-Eyed Monster
Overview
Talk to Ulises MarcosTo accept the mission, talk to Ulises Marcos. If you just completed They Laid Him On the Green you should be standing right in front of Ulises Marcos. Otherwise, sail to Trinidad and you will find Ulises Marcos in the Church. Marcos has some news: The heretic knows we are in contact, it seems, or she would never have sent this message to me for delivery. Regardless, this is what she says: '[your name], you have proven yourself one of the most capable and heroic captains in the Caribbean, and perhaps the world. I covet that reputation, Captain, but must settle for possessing the owner of that reputation—in short, you. I want you working for me exclusively, [your name], forsaking all others. Perhaps in time—' Well, then she goes on about all of the things you'll be able to take from others by working together. I trust I do not need to continue? And I shouldn't have to point out that you cannot trust this woman. She is devoted to the sin evny, and will not be satisfied with sharing anything, least of all a reputation. As much as it troubles me to encourage violence, Madame Quyere and her Free Spirits must be stopped before they instigate brush wars on every island for a thousand miles. I want you to go to this meeting she suggests, captain. . . and in the name of God, I want you to kill her. —Ulises Marcos Leave the church, and to begin the mission, simply talk to the Coxswain and click The Green-Eyed Monster. Madame Quyere's ShipOnce your character arrives at Madame Quyere's ship (near Trinidad) you will notice Felicia Quyere (AKA Madame Quyere). Talk to her: Feliciana Quyere: "Ah, the noble hero has arrived at last. I am quite. . . envious of your reputation, Captain [your name]. And while I cannot take it from you directly, I believe I can still acquire that reputation by having you come to work exclusively for me. After all, do I not deserve the very best?" You: "An intriguing proposition, Madame Quyere, and I thank you for your kind words, but I think we both know I'm not here looking for work. I'm here to stop you." Feliciana Quyere: "You actually think you can stop one such as me? One who is above sin, above worldly concerns? Now I envy your imagination, Captain. I suggest you draw steel." It seems that talking didn't go smoothly, and now must force her to surrender through swashbuckling combat to complete the mission. Feliciana Quyere: "Please, [your name], no more. I. . . I do not know how, but you have defeated me. I envy your—" You: "Madame, I have no interest in your envy, only your surrender. Cease your interference with the dukes and allow them to live in peace. I have broken your spell over them." Feliciana Quyere: "Very well, but only because it amuses me to do so. I am not like you, Captain. I am not beholden to your notions of right and wrong, for God himself has chosen me as an example unto others. Go on, go back to your priest, and tell him of your "victory." Perhaps you should also remind him of the lessons of Naumann. . . he appears to have forgotten their meaning." Collect Your RewardNow that you've completed the mission, you may leave. Return to the Church and speak with Ulises Marcos to collect your rewards. Ulises Marcos: "Is it finished, Captain? Is she dead?" You: "You didn't say "kill," Father, you said "defeat." And she is defeated. I spared her life—once she yielded, I was not going to kill her in cold blood. I've got enough stains on my soul, thank you." Ulises Marcos: "I hope you do not come to regret the mercy you've shown today, yet I thank you for reminding me of my duties to mankind. Killing is never the answer, is it? One cannot use one mortal sin to cancel another. . . in the end, your soul is just as culpable. Very well, Captain. I thank you for your efforts, and your wisdom. I do not think we've heard the end of these Naumannists, and when they return we must all be prepared." You will be rewarded with a Figurehead Gargoyle, Gold 1580 doubloons, and at least Experience 1360 points. Here's a description of the Figurehead Gargoyle: Your crew embraces the deadly sin of envy, employing the claws of the gargoyle in their desire to take that which is not yet theirs. Related Missions
